Another ? about "Black Tie Optional" wedding (sorry!)

If DH decides to wear a tux, does that mean I should wear a long dress? Would I look under-dressed if I wear a cocktail dress and he is in a tux?

Thanks

Depends on the dress. A fancy cocktail dress though? You won't look underdressed. I'd probably wear a gown though just because I never get the opportunity to!

I will wear a very dressy short cocktail dress when DH wears his tux and I see plenty of other women do it. You can really go either way, whatever you prefer.

You are fine.
1. Black Tie "Optional" means - please dress appropriately for my formal event - Don't come looking like a farmer.
2. Even a true 'black tie' event does not require a gown. - I have gone to many galas w/ DH, he's always in a tux - I am not comfortable in a long gown so I always wear an appropriately formal/fancy cocktail dress - I'm always MORE than appropriately dressed -

Some women think just b/c it's long, it's "Black Tie" - but it could be head to toe red sequins, with 6 inches of cleavage and a slit up to there ..........Um, yeah, you're wearing a gown, but you look like a tramp Chat Icon Chat Icon

I get it - I know that some wedding invitations include attire wording so that people won't show up in jeans, sundresses, etc. but, I do expect that this particular wedding will be a pretty formal affair, based on the couple getting married. I would always rather be over dressed than under dressed for any event, but like you, not sure that I will be comfortable in a long dress and would prefer a short, dressy dress (I think)
