Another CAC Question. Any had or has
1. What temp. do you keep yours at?
2. Does it come on and off or does it constantly run.
3.Does it ever get cold or does it just cool off the house?
My DH is convinced something wrong w/ ours. This is the first year we're really using it. If we set it at 74 it never hits 74 it will turn on and off but the temp always reads 75. We set it at 76 when we were away this weekend and it was 80 in the house. The filter is new but it hasn't been serviced in over a year.
Any suggestions??? Are we crazy???

Re: Another CAC Question. Any had or has
This is our first year really using ours (closed on our house last year 8/05)
We have the temp set at 72 at night & 78 when we are at work. Our machine does not stay on all the time. It all depends on how many times we open & close the doors to outside. The more hot air you let in, the more the unit will run!
Our house does get cold, if we set the temp low enough

Re: Another CAC Question. Any had or has
We just had our's installed last month so in no way am I a pro at figuring this thing out. However, I LOVE to be cold. I keep it set at 70 at all times. It kicks off and on all throughout the day, depending on the temp in the house. If the temp hits 71, the unit goes on.
My house really does get cold. It's great!
I know you can keep the fan running at all times or on auto. If you put it on run, the fan will continously run, even when the cool air is not blowing. It keep the air circulating, making the house cooler. Or you can set the fan to auto. It will kick on when the air kicks on.

Re: Another CAC Question. Any had or has
You may need freon (sp?!) it's gas that makes the machine run. We set ours at 68 or 72, depends (we have two units, one for each floor). But basically, it'll run until the desired temp is reached and then it stops running...

Silly Question, I set mine at 40... am I doing the wrong thing.. I see everyone sets there's at 70 or so...maybe that's why it's not working properly upstairs...

Yes love...it may be frozen solid, that's prb why it's not working.
Turn it off and check the pipes, if they're frozen or beads of water come off, you know that's the problem. To unfreeze you have to either turn on the heat and let it run for an hour or turn off the unit for a day or two until it melts (I know this, because it happened to us when we moved into our house).
68-80 (believe it or not) is a perfect temp and makes the house nice and cold.

Re: Another CAC Question. Any had or has
OK, thanks for the help. It was working fine. Going on and off but Sunday because it was so hot it seems like it just couldn't cool off.
If it's really hot out do you find that your AC stays on and never really goes off?
Dh said something about the freon (sp?) too. I think we're gonna have someone come and service it regardless.
40 Degrees??? How cold is your house? It just stays on all the time at that temp right?

Re: Another CAC Question. Any had or has
Thanks..I'm totally clueless when it comes to this, I figured the colder the temp, the better.. I don't keep my unit on during the day, so it should be good, but I will check the pipes when I get home and then set it properly.. I am the worst...

Re: Another CAC Question. Any had or has
Yes, if it's really hot out (and we live in Georgia, so there are a LOT of hot days) it never turns off. Even if the temp is reached, it'll stay on.
We also have our upstairs unit (thermostat) set to automatically change based on the time; so at night it goes up to 80 and during the day it works harder. Most units have this feature...another thing, we had an older thermostat (manual) and bought a digital one at Home Depot and DH installed it (super easy). It was the best thing we did!

Re: Another CAC Question. Any had or has
DH must have lived in the Arctic in another life, he loves the cold! He keeps the CAC set pretty low in the evenings, but during the day we keep it at 77 degrees. He has the schedule set so it goes to 68 degrees by the time I'm home from work (especially when it's a HOT day). I've woken up in the morning to see that the temp is 64... sometimes I just don't know what he's thinking! 64... WAY too cold for me!

My DH does the same thing. He likes it cold..but I refuse to have to wear a sweater or flannel shirt! I agreed to keep it at 68, thinking that would be enough...but everyday when I come home from work, he's got it set to 64 and then we have to argue for me to turn it up to 68

Re: Another CAC Question. Any had or has
Ladybug...yours is not running properly. I live in GA and if it's set at 78, the only time it can't keep up is when it goes well into 90 degree weather OR I have a lot of people and movement in the house.
We set it 78 or 80 when we are not here during the day, when we are home for the day 78, and at night we turn it down to 75 or 76 but sometimes it stays at 78.
The fact that it can't meet the demand means it needs servicing.
