Wow. I'm a SAHM (although evidently a happier one than Ann ), and honestly that was a low blow to working moms.
Look, we are all entitled to our philosophies and values-- I stay home with my kids and I do think my kids are better off for it. But not everyone is going to agree with me. I also send my kids to Catholic school and I think they're better off for it, and I KNOW most people aren't going to agree with me on that one
Just saying that you can have an opinion and confidently own your opinion without slinging mud at the other side, kwim?
When the mudslinging starts, the insecurity shows.
But I also feel like once you start throwing around terms like "better" it can hurt.
Why?
I could make a list stating why I think my kids' lives have been better off with me staying home. Similarly, I'm sure you and many other working moms could make a list stating why your kids' lives are better due to you working.
We all know what's best for our families, taking into account our individual circumstances. Why should my choices make you feel "hurt", or vice versa? We are different people with different lives, kwim?
I don't know. That's just how I honestly feel.
When I read that I think that your children are better off than my children because you stay at home while I work. It's not a situation that I feel 100% happy with - it's a situation of necessity. I need to work to provide for my family. I know I'm just internalizing and you don't intend for me to interpret it that way, but that's just my immediate thought when I read those words. Hearing something like "We all do what works best for our family" would hurt less to me because it doesn't imply that one situation is better than the other or that one yield better results.
I could just be crazy

I agree. I know you might not have meant it that way, but the comment about your children being "better off" for being home with you stung when I read it. I don't necessarily think my DD is better off for being in daycare, but it is a necessity for our family. Do I think there are things that she is benefiting from there, certainly, but I would never say that she is "better off" being there than with me. Sometimes we really don't have a choice (despite what sacrifices Ann thinks we should all be able to make).
Ann, the comment about the child calling the daycare provider "mommy" was unnecessarily cruel and hurtful to us working mothers.

No one seemed to mention that all that you pay for daycare because you ladies work is TAX DEDUCTIBLE so you will get some of that money back. If you are a SAHM and want to send your child to pre school like I did because my son needed some extra help I was told it was not tax deductible.
I am a single mother. Most on here would probably laugh at the income I have to raise 2 kids on. My DD is in part-time before/after school care. That costs over $4k per year (we're talking about 15 hours/wk during the school year only) & let me say, I didn't get nearly even kinda sorta what I paid out back as a tax credit.
And the numbers I'm seeing on here are making me . I'm starting to reconsider that "maybe I'll have another one day in the future" stance!

hi - stopping in - new to the board and had a big LOL when I read this post. I also read Ann's prior posts. I came to some conclusions, you may agree or disagree, we are all entitled to our opinions -
A. perhaps ann is still adjusting .. some SAHM get a bad rap ... some by working moms. Some working moms get a bad rap .. .some don't ... grass is always greener. Let Ann express her opinions ....what do you care ... she is stranger...no need to call the poster names
B. I sense some jealously in some of the posts ... some seem jealous of ann that she is a sahm
c.some women work because they have to because dh's do not make enough $$$$, single parent, sudden loss of income and there are some where couples overextend themselves ona mtg, some want to go on nice trips every year/big SUV, feel they are putting their degrees to waste by staying at home, and get themselves in debt, did not factor kids into the equation, want nice things etc. want to have it all, and in the end feel guilty. Some work, are satisfied working and do not give a rat's - well ya know the phrase what others think Some, not all, you have a choice.
d. the tax deduction comments ... she seemed to try and help ..maybe mistaken... who knows? The Mommy comment .... actually my mom is a TA in a daycare and told me a similar story how a kid called her provider and real mommy ... "mommy." She added that they are children .... they don't know. Ann used it as a benchmark .. her way of feeling comfortable.
e. found the post on coming up with the name and smiled ... indecisive ... but caring - then i found a post about "how to have a girl?"we we all know it is 50/50 duh .. what about the one who thinks that babies can be potty trained at 7 months
f. It seems she tries to help, makes some valid pointsand some vague points but some of you just read into things and take it personally or are entertaining/funning yourselves. Do yourselves a favor and find something better to entertain yourselves with.

LMAO, I was not going to comment here bc I am a SAHM. I stay home bc even if I worked, it would not be enough to make a difference after we factor in child care.

Yes, so what is your point? Chris was taken as a User name so I went with Ann -- nickname ... is your name really PreggowithTwins ?
Gosh, just trying to say that getting back something is better than getting back nothing. If you don't think your refund is a big deal then send it to me ... the one not working. I'm not saying you ladies are paying chump change but you do want a quality person/people caring for your child. If you want good care, then you have to pay. It must be tough, especially for those are single parents or ladies who have to work because there spouse's job does not provide benefits. I did explore child care centers and got prices, spoke to people two years ago. I am home with my children and in the end is a great thing. As long as DH and I can get by in a way we feel we need to and provide for our children having me home the right thing. I will never get this time back with them and will always be able to make more money when they get older. I got my degrees, worked and now spending time with my young children.
You are beyond obnoxious. Please, just go away.

Why are you people jumping down her throat? It appears she was trying to be HELPFUL. Many new parents aren't even aware childcare is tax deductible.
The caps were obnoxious and then the complaining that she is a SAHM and can't use it. I mentioned that if I didn't work, I would be in a much lower tax bracket anyway so I would pay less taxes above and beyond what this deduction gives me, which defeats her sahm's can't use the deduction argument. Or course I received no reply to that.
See now I don't see the SAHM part as complaining at all. Several times on here I've read that a SAHM thinks she can claim pre-school. I think she was just pointing it out.
It's obvious that when you already don't care for someone, ANYTHING they say is going to ruffle your feathers. Good intentions or not I digress though
I dont know if you saw her other post on this thread where she says " Gosh, just trying to say that getting back something is better than getting back nothing. If you don't think your refund is a big deal then send it to me ... the one not working. I'm not saying you ladies are paying chump change but you do want a quality person/people caring for your child. If you want good care, then you have to pay. If you do not find this obnoxious then you have a much higher tolerance than I do.
This woman consistently comes on threads that are meant for working mom and in a round about or sometimes NOT so roundabout way insults working mothers and throws digs about 'sacraficing" and "making it work bc they are only young once". I was home with my son last year and I NEVER would have posted something like that on a thread, in fact I didnt comment on threads asking for working mother advice bc I wasn't a working mother.
I don't like know it all bitchess and she is one and I will call her out everytimes she posts something nasty bc I really have nothing better to do
exactly!!! I agree completely! It's like she indirectly criticizes working moms! I find her posts to be extremely obnoxious and rude.

Not at all, at first it was hard adjusting but over time and talking to a relative's daughter who told me a child calls the daycare provider "Mommy" I felt better
Unless I am reading this wrong, it is comments like these that can stab us working moms in the heart. Most of us don't CHOOSE to work. We have NO CHOICE.
Really Ann456??? that above comment quoted is just WRONG!
I want to VOMIT reading that!!!!!!!!!!
Cruel, cruel, cruel. me too!!

e. found the post on coming up with the name and smiled ... indecisive ... but caring -
Indecisive... but caring! Because nothing says "I care" like polling public forums to determine your child's name.

f. It seems she tries to help, makes some valid pointsand some vague points but some of you just read into things and take it personally or are entertaining/funning yourselves.
Duh, we were just funning ourselves. I really need to stop funning myself, it gets me in trouble every time

Funning?
I don't even know where to start with that one.
And 9/10 I don't respond to day care threads because we don't use daycare. Throwing in my .02 cents wouldn't make a difference.

hi - stopping in - new to the board and had a big LOL when I read this post.
Do yourselves a favor and find something better to entertain yourselves with.
thank you! I laughed so hard I spit out my drink at the screen!!
