another drunk wrong way driver
This time no one was hurt, but Holy Sh!t!! What the hell is going on. . .this one is close to my house.
A wrong-way driver - Long Island's third in the past three weeks - was arrested on drunken-driving charges just after midnight Thursday after his speeding car crashed to a stop on a median guardrail on Sunrise Highway in Sayville, the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office said.
Ralph Cerullo, 54, of East Setauket allegedly was speeding west in the eastbound lanes of the Sunrise in Sayville when police responded, according to a news release.
Deputies tried to pull over Cerullo's 2008 Infiniti, but he swerved around the marked police cars, which had both their sirens and emergency lights on, the release said.
After he swerved, he entered the grassy median, then struck a guardrail, police said.
Cerullo was arrested at 12:05 a.m. Friday and charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, reckless endangerment and unlawfully fleeing, the release said.
According to police, Cerullo told them he had just left a holiday party.
"Had he not been stopped, Mr. Cerullo undoubtedly would have caused serious injury to himself and other motorists," Suffolk County Sheriff Vincent DeMarco said in the release.
Cerullo was scheduled to be arraigned Friday in First District Court in Central Islip, police said.
