Another formula question: when I make bottles there is lots of foam at the top....

DH says "this can't be good for her"....why is this happening and is the foam ok? I mean, there is nothing I can do about it...I'm following the instructions. I just don't want her to get all that air...

Just make them beforehand and let them settle.

But I've given DS bottles just after I've made them and he is fineChat Icon

ETA: I have a formula pitcher I got at BRU and you can make a days worth of formula in there and then just pour it and heat it as need be.

Do you shake it or stir it?

I read not to shake formula as air go in and gives gas to babies. I am thinking the foam could be air bubbles.

Hmm, the back of the can says "SHAKE WELL" in bold lettersChat Icon I've never heard of stirring it.

That's one of the reasons why I make all of the bottles for the next day the night before. You can shake it and then swirl it and that helps to get some of the bubbles out.

If DC is still bad with gas you can add the mylicon drops to the bottles. Just check with your ped.

I shake b/c that is what the instructions say, but maybe I should try stirring...

I use the formula mixer thingy and there is still foam, but it doesn't seem to bother DD.

I always give her foamy formula. If I make the bottles in advance, I find that some settles at the bottom, so I have to shake it again before giving it to her. It doesn't seem to bother her much though.

What does this formula pitcher look like? I can't believe I've never seen it being that I go to BRU every day.

Also - I shake the bottle and prepare the bottles ahead of time. If he gets one that was just opened the foam doesn't bother him at all.

Ah I shook the formula and had tons of foam and bubbles, DD never got gasey from it. She had the normal burp and that was it.

I have two little suggestions if you think that the bubbles are making DD gassy:

1. Burp her after every oz; and
2. Switch her to Gentlease.

DS had painful gas with Similac Advance, so my ped switched him to Gentlease and it made ALL the difference in the world.

And the funny thing is, Gentlease (for fussiness and gas) ONLY comes in powder formChat Icon
