Re: Another hostage situation
I'm so sick of this and I don't think there are real solutions to it. I fear turning on the news every morning. I hope they can get those hostages out.

Re: Another hostage situation
Is anyone else feeling extremely anxious about this? I don't even want to walk into a store. I went shopping yesterday with my baby and I just kept looking around at who else was in the store. I know we can't live like this but I feel an attack is so likely and I'm scared to be there.

Yes!I am. I cant control it. I keep thinking about the NYC Thanksgiving parade, the tree lighting, New Years Eve. And my blood pressure starts to rise. I just keep thinking these mother fuckkers will strick at the most precious of times and where innocent people are gathered.

Ugh, that's exactly how I feel. I don't want my babies, or anyone else's getting caught up in this mess. I Can't stop thinking about it and worrying.

I am feeling very nervous. I know what you mean. I know this sounds crazy and I admit I could have been overacting and even racially profiling. But I was in a Mc Donalds late one night in Port jeff with my family and there were these two Arab looking guys maybe 25 years old and they weren't eating food they had a back pack and were video taping each other and making serious faces into the camera, no smiling. Kind of scary serious faces. Maybe they were just having fun doing silly videos..I have no idea. Then they videoed the workers and at one point I thought they pointed the camera in our direction. I told my husband lets go I want to Leave NOW! My husband called me nuts but I said you know what I don't care I am uncomfortable and I left with my family. I just got a weird feeling and left. I freak out all the time, I don't want to feel like this. I don't want to stereotype. I hate racism and now I find myself caught in this situation because of the world today. I am even nervous to go to the Mall because I keep thinking of the what could happen should these people start attacking us here. I know I can't live in fear but when it involves my 2 girls I get so nervous. I HATE this feeling and wish I can make it go Away!! This is exactly the fear they want us to have and here I am letting them get to me.

Re: Another hostage situation
I started my job in the city July 2001 - I've been coming in every day (more or less, obviously) ever since. I'm not an anxious type of person, I don't worry about the 5 billion things that could happen - it's just not my nature.
There are days (like 9/11 anniversary) I'm anxious or worried about both DH and I being in the city now that we have 2 kids - but it passes and I move on.
But this week, for the first time I don't want to get on the train and come into the city every day - I don't want my husband to do it - I had a really hard time this week, and today made it worse ..........
Not that I feel particularly safer on an different island w/ no escape at home - but I work in a landmark building, and DH works in a major NYC hospital - so ........this week, I'm freaked out.

I just had a situation this morning.
I walked out to my car to drive the kids to school. I live right by a fire Dept - A stone's throw away. There was a large camo duffel bag that looked full right by my car and right bordering the fire Dept lot.
I immediately took the kids inside and went back out to call the police. Luckily, right before I did, one of the FD guys saw it and said he was gonna go tell the other guys. Some one man came out and checked it out. Luckily it was fine. It was just some gym clothes. But still.
******* scary.

Another hostage situation
There is a solution. But no one wants to do it. It would be to send a message to the countries where ISIS generally is. Blow them up.
Then over here, start checking everyone who fits the profile. If something isn't right, deport them or have them detained.
I know it's drastic and sad but this is why under Reagan, none of this happened. He was a no BS guy who would blow people up and then they would apologize. We need that now in a President more than ever.

Re: Another hostage situation
Yes, it makes me so anxious. And I'm an anxious person in general. And to top it off I'm already hormonal with post partum anxiety.
We have a wedding in the city next year at cipriani. We have a room booked at the grand Hyatt at grand central across the street. My girls will be 3 and 1. They will be at the ceremony (at least one is a flower girl) and then going back to the hotel with someone. I'm already anxious about it. What if something happens while we are at the wedding. A hostage situation at the hotel. A suicide bombing at grand central and I can't get to my babies.
I know it's not rational to think like that and yes it's about a year away. And yes I'm letting he terrorists win by getting to me. But I can't help it.
I was there the morning of 9/11 at the wtc and is still have ptsd from that to boot.
Dh asked if I wanted to go to a movie this weekend. Immed I said no. What if something happened and my girls are orphamed. I went to a movie a few months ago and when the theatre got dark I had a small panic attack
I was at the supermarket one night after this happened and I thought where would I run to if people came in and took us hostage.
Scary f'ing world

What? There were hostages and attacks under Reagan. He didn't blow up Qaddafi / Gaddafi either. Oh, and the Iran-Contra affairs? I'm sure that didn't help anything.
I'm not defending Obama here, but all presidents have been far from perfect.

Didn't he bomb Libya in like 1986? I am reading a book right now about that very subject. Fiction book, but the background of the story is based on the air raids on Libya and Qaddafi's camp back in the 80's by Reagan.

Things happen that President's can't control- I agree. But during the 80's under Reagan, the whole world respected us. He was a no nonsense kind of guy. Our current President just sits there and watches all this unfold. I'll be honest though, GWB kind of set us up for all this. Going after Iraq created Isis. As far as I am concerned, he should have left them alone over there.

Yes, I should clarify. I meant he didn't "get" him. In the same way that we haven't "gotten" Isis. Sorry, I'm in a rush to go home early from work.

Yes, I agree- we caused this problem.
It was a different time in the 80s. I'm not sure Reagan's tactics would hold up now.
