Another pumping question
Most of the time I'm home with DS so I rarely pump, but when I do I find that I get the most in the first five-10 minutes. After that it slows down so much that its just drops at a time and I feel like it is a waste to keep going.
If I continue pumping after the initial flow slows will I get another significant let down of milk? DS is 3 months now and only spends 5-8 minutes per side so I thought it would be ok to only pump for that amount of time but since I'm going back to work PT this week I need to figure out this pumping business!

Re: Another pumping question
U might get another let down. I used to pump for like 20 minutes total. At 3 months i would get like 7ounces or something like that in total.

Me too. I pumped exclusively. My lactation consultant told me to continue pumping for 3-5 minutes after you don't see any more milk coming out. She said this sends a signal to the brain to make more milk the next time.

You are right. The more you pump the more milk you will get for the next time. Its supply and demand.

Very true!! After keeping that up for a few days you will see a big increas in your supply.
Also once you think there is nothing else left in there, drink some water and keep on pumping. You will be presantly surprised!
Oh, and just in general, make sure you drink water WHILE pumping, but i am sure you already knew that.

Re: Another pumping question
I also get most of my milk in the first 5 minutes. Once I notice it slowing down, I hit the letdown button on the Medela PISA and I see a new flow of milk. Similar to PP, keep pumping an extra few minutes after the milk has emptied to help you produce more milk next time.
