Another Question - What is your nursery or preschooler doing and learning in school?
I guess this is all new to me! How old was your DC when they started nursery school/ preschool school.
Also what were they learning/doing in school?
How long did it take for you to completely leave them there without them crying?
DD started nursery in January (she will be 3 in February - so we decided to start mid-year) - she hasn't been very cooperative with the separation from me. She refused to play with other kids or participate when I was there and when I left she refused to participate and cryed "Mommy" the whole time. She won't eat her snack, color, play etc.... So we pulled her out of the course and will try again in September.
Just wondering how your experience was? Im also a SAHM and my kids are literally with me all the time - I rarely ever leave them with anyone - so im wondering if that is a factor of why this separation thing is so HARD for her.

Re: Another Question - What is your nursery or preschooler doing and learning in school?
My oldest started nursery school when he was 3. He went 3 afternoons a week and was ok with me leaving by the 2nd week.
My middle child also started when he was 3. Same thing, 3 afternoons.
They learn letter recognition, number recognition, colors, shapes, they sing a MILLION songs, make a bunch of crafts, they have centers, snack time, playground time. My middle son will be 4 in June, and he is starting to write his name.

Aly just turned three and despite missing the age cutoff, they put her in the young 3 room anyway after our initial visit/observation.
They are just beginning color and letter study, tracing letters on paper, and various thematic units. This month seems to be a winter/bear theme.
Last week she came home to tell me that bears hibernate in the winter.
They also do music, chapel, modified PE
they have free play in the AM, they do Art, circle time (calendar, etc), storytime

Re: Another Question - What is your nursery or preschooler doing and learning in school?
DS will be 3 in April and he started at 2.5 so in Oct. I am also a SAHM and we are always together and never did any classes. The first I want to 4 classes he was upset, by the 5th I would kneel down to kiss him and fall forward because he would run into the room. It isn't really a academic as much as it is social at this for his school (he goes to catholic school and I am not sure if all nursey's are set up like this). I know next year they do teach them. They do go over the seasons, sing songs, simon says, have circle time where they read books and say a prayer, arts and crafts (he comes home each school day with an art project). They do the ABC's and 123's .
It will get easier it just takes time. I never stayed and they never encourged me to stay. His teacher told me that once I left he cried for a minute or two and was ok.

How long did you leave her there before you pulled her out? I would say on average it takes them about 2 weeks to acclimate to a new program. I would say waiting till September is fine but I wouldn't pull her out if she is crying, at least give a month or two. I bet she loves it after only a few weeks.

My daughter took a LONG time to adjust - she is veeeery attached. I started her at 2yo 3 days a week and it took at least 3-4 weeks for her to adjust.
Now she is 3 and goes 5 times a week and LOVES it.
She is learning how to read and write (she can write her name and type her first name and almost all of her last). She has learned about the president (today she hasn't stopped talking about Obama), the solar system, the inner workings of the human body, the continents, yoga, I can go on and on - its AMAZING what they teach the kids there.
