I would call the police and send my husband over

after all- what good is it being married to 270 lb 6 foot tall meathead if he can't save a child

he would not be scared- he lives for this stuff

I would NEVER EVER take it upon myself to investigate the situation!! that's what the police are for. and yes, I would call them. too many people have this "not my problem" attitude. then you hear horrible reports on the 10pm news and wonder why no one got involved. Chat Icon

I've prayed for the phone to ring, for someone to knock on the door -anything - to make what was happening at that moment stop. Because when you are that person who is lost in a rage and beating your child you lose yourself in the violence and believe it or not, someone coming to the door or calling the house is actually enough sometimes (or at least in my experience) to bring a person back to themselves.

I'd be more inclined to knock on the door first and then call the police.

Hell No...it is not up to me to be the one to get punched in the face...thats why we have an emergency system so the proper authorities can handle such things

ITA, however it would depend on the severity.

The one time I did see a mother punching a child (about 3 or 4 yo), I did something and it was still a chickensh1t response.

I walked over to her & said "Excuse me. Your daughter dropped this" and held out her barette. She stopped punching her, took the barette & the father said "Let's get in the car."

It is the one thing that I am utterly ashamed of to this day. That I let that piece of cr@p drive away with that poor child & I did nothing.

This is not something you should be ashamed of - you should be proud of yourself for "interupting" what was going on - sometimes thats all it takes to snap the person back to reality.

Most others would just walk on by - ignoring what was going on.

As for me - I would do whatever i had to do to stop a parent from abusing a child. I would not be able to live with myself if I chose to do nothing.

definatly would NOT go to the house. thats asking for trouble. just call the police. let them handle it. its THEIR job, not ours.
