Another Spin-off to Sweet 16....where was yours?

These MTV sweet 16 things are outrageouly crazy....where was yours?

I am a twin...so me and my sister were allowed to invite 10 friends each (plus the family) and my mom had the back room at Bennagins. That was it....nothing fancy, but we had fun.

PS. I got a used 1986 chevy nova for a birthday present and my sister got a used 1986 chevy cavalier.

Mine was in a church basement in Queens - and the party was the present! There were about 60 or so people there - family and friends.

I didn't have one. We couldn't afford it at the time, so I was supposed to have a big 18th birthday or grad party. But then my grandmother passed away. FH promised me a big graduation party for college, but I don't think that's practical when trying to save for a wedding!

I really wanted a sweet 16 though!

My quinceanera was at my father's wife apartment, I did get to wear a beautiful dress, had my makeup done but in comparison to every other girl's, it wasn't fancy at all.
It was great, I have great memories of that day.

At Mickey Finns, a bar in Glendale. It was a Saturday day party and We had 2 rooms - one for the kids and one for the adults. The kids room had the dance floor and DJ.

Didn't have one. Not a big deal where I am from - I didn't know anyone who had one.

That was the day I could drive legally so I drove myself and some friends to dinner after picking up my official license from the DMV.

It was cool!!

And I paid for half of my first car the next week. A powder blue VW golf (used) with a crank sunroof!! I loved that car!!

My friends from school made a surprise party for me -- there were about 14 of us. My parents also took me out for a family dinner to whichever was my favorite restaurant at the time.

I didn't have one either. I was just not into having parties. Though (just a little personal pity party) my dad was away on a golfing trip, and my brother didn't even wish me a happy birthday (I think we had gotten into a fight recently about a Champion sweatshirt ) So, it wasn't a fabulous birthday, but my mom tried to make it special for me.
I went to a bunch though, but mostly at small VFW halls or one girl rented out a local club to have it at.

I was supposed to have a big party at a hall but my parents seperated 2 months before my birthday and the thought of the two of them in the same room on my bday made me want to
( Years later I was still nervous about them being in the same room at my wedding!!!)

So instead my mom got me a huge suv limo I packed like 20 of my friends in it and we went to a comedy club in the city and out to dinner and went to see the tree in rockafeller center.

My mother was a waitress at a catering hall and was on very good terms with the owner so she got a great deal. I had abotu 100 people, mostly family (my father is the oldest of 14 so that is alot of aunts, uncles and cousins)

My father's cousin's husband's family (whew!) used to own the Elks restaurant in Port Jeff, and the bar above, which was called JK's at the time, so I had it there. It was about 30 people or so, and it was really nice. I think the place is called Port Jazz now or something, and I went there on my wedding night Yep, dress and all!!! But it was too busy and we couldn't get in

Wickers. Unfortunately it was the same day as graduation that year, so alot of my older friends were not there :(

I didn't have a sweet 16 because I had a very elaborate bat mitzvah... what's scary is my bat mitzvah was probably a little more over the top than my wedding! I had 85 people at my VERY casual, laid-back, sunday afternoon wedding at the Southampton Inn (a small venue). My bat mitzvah was at the Swan Club with over 150 people! At the time I thought it was just the norm because everyone had them, and usually much more elaborate than mine... but now, thinking about it, I think I'm going to go call my parents and thank them
