another 'when you are sick' question..
do you always go to the doc? how ong do you wait before going?
i am a teacher, and i happen to be a reaklly healthy person, but i catch everything. i hate antibiotics, so i try to not go to the doc and just rest and take care of myself when i feel sick.
the problem is, last year, i was sick, really just exhausted, for a bout 3 weeks. so i finally went to the doc and founf out i had strep! it never localized in my throat so i didnt know...i was just really tired (thats how i know im sick..i never even nap otherwise!)
so 2 things, how long do you feel sick before seeing your doc?
how do you recover without antibiotics or other meds?
what do you do to keep your immunity up?
like i said..i eat really healthy, exercise, etc..

I'm like you. Also a teacher and really try to avoid the antibiotics. But I will go to the doc if I'm so sick, I actually have to call in sick or I'm just NOT getting better. I'm susceptible (sp) to bronchial things, so I have to pay attention to coughs so that it doesn't turn into pneumonia.

i just dont get how some teachers never get sick and dont take care of themselves like i normally do. i always wonder if there is another way to boost my immune system, but i do a lot already. i have had allergies forvere and my sinuses are all messed up, maybe that has something to do with it???

Re: another 'when you are sick' question..
I am a teacher too .. and also a sick magnet!
My rule of thumb is, if I feel REALLY sick I make an appt after the second day. Last year I had the flu twice (my dr thinks once was seasonal and other was swine.. what are the odds ) ..... Anyway both those times I felt pretty sick so I went after the first or second day of feeling REALLY lousy.
Typically though, I will wait 3-4 days and if I'm not feeling AT ALL better I will make an appt. I look to see if my symptoms improve at all on their own.. there have been times I've waited a week.... depends on what the symptoms are and how severe it is.
For my immunity, I use a ton of antibacterial hand sanitizer, I take vitamin c when I first feel myself getting sick, and I wash my hands, don't put my hands near my mouth/face.... nothing too extreme. I get sick anyway though!

Re: another 'when you are sick' question..
one minute i think im the only one getting sick and then i look around me and half the people i work with are too!
lucky for me, i dont ever really feel horrible...i just get extremely tired. i have theorized (with some confirmation from my doc) that the epstein barr i got from mono always creeps up the levels when im sick, hence the sleep.
i just feel so frustrated because like i said, im a 'healthy' person and do lots to keep it that way.
i guess its the curse that comes with teaching
