I may get flamed big time for this but I'm going to say it anyway.
It's a very important message to get out. And it's got people talking. The little boy was crying for less than 5 mins. The commerical was done with 5 cameras so they only had to do 1 take. His mother (the woman in the commercail) was right there. Child Services was on the set and felt he wasn't in danger. I believe the message is getting lost with everyone worrying about if the child was really crying or not.
How many times have you left your child with a babysitter and they cried. Thinking you weren't coming back. How many of you did CIO for more than 5 mins? Thinking you weren't going in to get them.
I really don't see a difference. Sorry but that's JMO.
Let's not loose sight of the message.
No flames here. I would absolutely do it for a cause. My child nor was that child ever in danger. I doubt it will ever scar the child.

I HATE that commercial. imagine some poor mom who is sick and/or possibly dying for some other reason than smoking, having to see how sad her child will be without her when she already knows her days are numbered. people dont only die b/c of smoking......

Re: anti smoking commercial with that little boy
Terrible terrible terrible commercial. Totally unnecessary to subject a little boy to that.
Of course kids cry during the day, but crying because you think you've lost your Mom is totally different than crying because you can't find your favorite toy.
As for the people who think the child won't be traumatized- were you ever lost as a child? I was and I can tell you, I can remember the fear and panic vividly almost 30 years later. When my parents found me I was hyperventilating from crying to much. Can you imagine the terror that child felt when he looked everywhere for him Mom? Totally cruel and unnecessary for a commercial.

Re: anti smoking commercial with that little boy
i would let my child do that in a heartbeat. he will not be "sacrificed" or "tortured"--he is an actor. who knows what other situations this kid has been put in.
if even one person quits after seeing this then it did its job. after losing the most important person in the world to lung cancer, i am very pro ANY type of product/commercial/program that will get people, especially parents, to quit.
that child cried for 19 seconds. other children live with and breathe deadly smoke 24 hours a day/7 days a week. so honestly, who is doing the disservice to their child?

Imagine that same mom who is dying who knows that thousands of other DC won't have to go through what her DC are going through because of this commercial.....
Most DC, including my own, have "lost" their mom for 19 seconds.... on numerous occasions. I have them in my sights the entire time, but they are looking the wrong way. After 19 seconds, when they finally realize that if they turn around, I'm right there, they forget all about what they were crying about. And yes, that's exactly the same as what happened on that set, IMO. For 19 seconds, he "thought" he lost his mom, then she reappeared. The same thoughts went through his mind as the millions of DC who "lose" their parents every day.....
