ANTS wtf!
we are already having ant problems, mainly in our lower level (halfway below ground but not basement) bathroom
i dont know what to do! it seems that they are coming out of one corner, where the shower stall meets tile on the floor! i dont see a hole so I dont get it? we spray there and then the next morning, there are like 15 dead ants on the floor but this has been happening for 2 weeks!
its a newer bathroom, in great condition AHHHHH i HATE ANTS!

Re: ANTS wtf!
i hear you!!
unfortunetly i dont have any answers, as I am in a similar situation... we just moved into our home like 2 months ago.. never an issue before, (well, only speaking of 2 months of course..) but i think we may have 'carpenter' ants?? ive been looking it up, and we sprayed and put trap things but dont find any dead.. like maybe 4-5 a day.. but def enough to have concerns...
do you bring anyone in to help with the problem? is there an ant "season"? do you have everyday ants? ours are black, which looking it up im assuming may come close to carpenter ants.. UGH.
thx for posting this, and hopefully you can get some ideas, good luck. im starting to get freaked out and not so sure either what to do...

thanks, we've only been in our home about 7 months and never had to deal with this before
havent brought anyone else in to check it out yet, but we will I guess. They are the tiny black ants, like you would see outside. Are those carpenter ants?

Re: ANTS wtf!
Those don't sound like carpenter ants. We have an ant problem every year. It's gross and annoying. I've been finding them now and we have never gotten them this early. I spray outside the perimeter of the house and put ant traps down in the rooms where it's a problem. It usually either solves the problem or decrease the amount significantly and in a short amount of time. I have a 3 y.o. so I usually hide them under things or inside things so he can't find them to play. If he does happen to touch one it's not a big deal he's only touching the casing that goes around it and i just make sure he washes his hands.

Re: ANTS wtf!
We had this in our Apt and we sprayed outside the house too...our landlord hired an exterminator and he put traps inside and this gel like substance all over the perimeter of the windows. It worked!

Re: ANTS wtf!
ants are out seemingly earlier this year due to the ground not being frozen as it usually is. They seem to hunt for a new space every spring. I just put out some of the good ant baits not those cheap ones and they are gone within a few days. I make it a point not to squish any (don't kill the messenger) and let them bring the new food back to their little friends

have to be honest, i dont know. what we have going on is not xtra large, but def NOT tiny black ants like you described, so maybe not carpenter ants in your case.. im guessing of course. i really dont know.
i have sprayed and put the traps down, but we actually do not find any dead anywhere.. just randomly climbing on the walls and on the island in kitchen, so far the only place we have them...
i think i may call someone unfortunetly bc the process to kill them and their nest apparently is much more involved than i hoped.. IF they are those type.. who knows!!! but mine are not tiny, if that helps you! lol

Re: ANTS wtf!
ugh! the first spring we were in our house we had ants EVERYWHERE. they were even climbing up the walls. We bought those little pod things that are supposed to help kill the colony & they worked.
i just did a quick google and came up with this: How to get rid of ants Just make sure any LO's or pets you have don't have access to it.

Re: ANTS wtf!
We get ants every year. FIL puts out ant traps near wherever he sees them coming and they die off in a couple of days. Sometimes they just find another point of entry. I have a theory that they come from behind the dishwasher (it's old), but really they are so tiny they can fit thru almost anywhere.

Re: ANTS wtf!
Every spring i get a trail of ants for about a week or so. We have a split and in the bathroom upstairs on the window in the shower and by the sliders in the kitchen. Only 2 places and only in the spring. I imagine I'll start seeing them soon.
I use a natural spray that is pet friendly b/c we have a dog. It works for I definitely still see them for days.
BTW...i believe carpenter ants are the giant black ants. What i get are the tiny black ants you see outside.

Re: ANTS wtf!
Sprays are useless... I post about this stuff all the time but it really is amazing.
We are in FL so ants are inevitable but since using this stuff I only see them every 6 months or so until we use it again. It's really gross to see all the ants surrounding it and not being able to kill them but once they leave and bring it back to the nest that's it, they're gone for good.
Hot Shot - got it at HD

Re: ANTS wtf!
I use the good old RAID ant traps. Safe around pets and kids, and they take the bait back to the nest. Works within a few weeks, but well worth it. I do not believe the above gel is safe around kids or pets, if they have access to it. That's why I like the bait traps.

Probably not, but it's only quarter size globs in a few areas and we do it when DD goes to bed and clean it up in the AM. It works within minutes, seriously.
The best is if you can find where they are coming in from, we found they were coming in from a tiny crack in the corner of our crown molding once so we globbed it right there and they swarmed it and were gone. The next time they were coming from under the stove so we put a glob down there under the cabinet and same thing.

Re: ANTS wtf!
we had this problem too, except they were all under our kitchen windows and on the floor below the windows. we sprayed all outside around the foundation with bug killer and so far (knock on wood) this year they haven't seem to come back. i don't know if its just because its been a warmer winter though. good luck!

I am going to tell you what my friend told me. You are not going to believe it - but I am telling you it works and it is safe.
Clorox GreenWorks Spray.
I don't know how, I don't know why -- but this has saved our lives. We once had so many ants on top of our refrigerator it looked like we painted it black I switched to this spray, and now we never have problems!

Re: ANTS wtf!
They are pavement ants.....put down oatmeal or rice until you get the ant killer this weekend. The ants eat the oatmeal and their stomachs explode (or something like that, lol). The ants pretty much never came back after 2 weeks of putting down oatmeal, but we had an 'green' exterminating company come in because we had other bug issues being on a slab by the water (we signed a contract and best money ever spent!).
