Anxiety - does it ever stop?
Right now DS is riding his bike around the block with his friend and his friends parents. He has his helmet on, he rides well, I know and trust this family.
Im holding myself back from walking around the block. First there was another rider with his hugh dog following, then there was a car going too fast through the neighborood, then there was a car going too slow (turned out to be a food delivery.) Oh yeah Im sitting outside on my front porch right now. How overprotective can you get.

I DREAD that milestone.
We live on the outskirts of a development and two blocks from a main road. Very few kids ride their bikes around here, sad I know but drivers are insane.
My mother was hit by a car. My kids know about it. There's not a day that goes by that I point out reckless driving, etc. I am a psycho about the street, parking lots, etc. I'm never going to ever get used to it.
I don't know how my Dad relaxed enough to let us ride and walk the neighborhood.

I don't think you ever stop worrying about your kids. Honestly, I can't imagine how my parents allowed us to do the things we were allowed to do (sleep out on an island in the middle of a harbor when we were 11, ride our bikes to the abandoned school by us, take our boat out for the day when we were 14, etc.). No cell phones, no way of getting in touch with us.
It's baby steps. I started to weigh my anxiety & worry versus making my kids neurotic worrywarts. Then I remind myself to "be normal" , grit my teeth & say "Ok, sure you can walk to x's house." ...even if you have to follow the first few times.

I am also dreading this.. I can't even let him go to camp swimming lessons without being in the stands watching.. and thank God I did bc he jumped into the pool without the camp instructors watching without floaties and was struggling. Would he have been okay without them in 3.5 feet of water?- probably. But I just am not ready to fully trust anyone with my little boy just yet (DS is 5).
