Re: AnXiety AttacK - How the Heck am I going to pay for Day care
I was not able to figure it out on paper, but somehow we are doing it.
ETA:
We eat out less. I buy more sensibly when I shop. DH takes his motorcycle to work which saves us a TON in gas money. We lowered our insurance coverage on our cars (they are older). We got rid of the house phone that we never used anyway & bought only the minutes we needed on our cell phones. We do not impulse buy, and we use coupons as much as we can. (Love the 20% off at BBB & Harmon's!)We signed up for the formula and diaper coupons. And whever we can get "money back" for using a credit card, we do and then pay it off right away. We combine errands when we drive, so we use less gas.

I feel your pain as I also have no clue how we're going to make it work. I just feel like in the end, you find a way, we may not know what it is now, but we'll figure it out.

we can't afford it either - especially for two!
I am hoping to arrange a work from home situation with my job, and if that doesn't pan out, DH and I are going to have to work shifts. We'll never see each other, but thats the sacrifice we'll have to make for a little while.

Re: AnXiety AttacK - How the Heck am I going to pay for Day care
We already cut costs EVERYWHERE I've never been a spender
We have freed up about $600 a month.. but with day care at $1500 its just not enough.
Food: we really don't eat out.. #1 I've already had a food problem with my stomache so I got used to not being able to eat out much #2 its not only cheaper but more fun to cook at home, both hubby and I like to cook
Gas: we live 10mins from his office and 7mins from the train station (in opposite directions, but still) so gas has never been guzzeled. Our errands are done on weekends and always a "Roundtrip" format
Home Bills: We actually paid off some credit cards (hence the free up) and I'm a budgeting FIEND so our bills are sort of stabilized.. the only major changes I forsee is the lack of LIRR (which I already had this month) and Lack of 100% income (i'll be at 70%)
Ugh!

I think you might be able to find slightly less expensive daycare. I recall a couple daycare threads in the past where mom's reported monthly payments as low as $800-1100 a month.......

Ya know what?
Lemme take a moment and BREATHE
I haven't even a CLUE how much day care is.. Average in my area is 1200-1500 but.. they haven't given me a number yet..
Maybe I should call and push them for that.
Girls gotta budget eh?

Re: AnXiety AttacK - How the Heck am I going to pay for Day care
see if you can find those old threads on LIF..... they mentioned specific day care centers and costs. I believe it was the pregnancy board, but I bet there are similar threads on the parenting board.
good luck!

I think some of the moms on parenting babysit for a living. So perhaps you can post there and see if you can work out an arrangement with someone (if you don't mind not having your child in daycare).

Re: AnXiety AttacK - How the Heck am I going to pay for Day care
Ok.. a LIL better
I found out its $1155 a month
Which is better than $1500 right???
AND I found out they have TONS of space so I can even drop her off a little earlier..
This is second point is important because I thought I was going to have to wait until the New Year and that would have meant 2 weeks with NO PAY while I took care of the baby!
I think I can squeeze out another $500 from our budget if I stop contributing to our food budget and we start eating PB&J for a while.
I have to make it to next year... Next year the second half of a 'loan' comes in. Not really a loan its sorta a borrow against the equity of a condo we have but coming from a family member.. its complicated.. but that will pay off MORE bills - Our truck, all of my credit cards (i don't have much) all of my loans (again, I don't have a lot) and a good majority of the same for my hubby.
Just... gotta... make it.......... UGH

Re: AnXiety AttacK - How the Heck am I going to pay for Day care
You guys have to understand
I am a FIEND about money
I refused to even rent my apt until I doubled checked all figures in my budget, calculated future bills and possible outcomes and considered purchase of new items for the apt, before being convinenced I'd still have more than enough to pay the rent.
I've been said off twice in 14months since then and ... THANK GOD FOR MY LANDLORDS! I have actually never completely skipped rent. I've been late, but I pay.
I am a worry wort about not having enough money.. I have no savings (so sue me) but i always pay all my bills. Never skip or float one or borrow from one for the other...
So .. its a Me thing
I freak about expenses... I always want $400 a month in 'spending cash' just in case... without that cushion i get nervy.

Re: AnXiety AttacK - How the Heck am I going to pay for Day care
Do either of your jobs offer pre-tax child care deuctions (like wageworks?) I have this and not only do I get the $ taken out before I get it, but the lower pre-tax amount allows me to take home almost the same amount.
I know it does not cover nearly enough, but it helps.

Yeah my job offers that.. I think it maxs out at $500 a month??
Gotta check that too - Thanks

Gotta check that too - Thanks $5K a year pre-tax. Adk your HR if your DH could do it too if it is offered for the same kid. Not sure since my DHs job does not offer it. It helps equalize your take home
