Anxiety Sufferers
I know that there are several other people who battle with anxiety on here and I was just wondering what you do those times when anxiety takes hold. Are there any special tricks or excercises you use to get past it? I am pregnant so I can't do xanax etc.
Thanks in adavnce.

Re: Anxiety Sufferers
If you can lie down, then that is usually the best thing. However, it's not always easy to lie down- it happens to me a lot at work. I try to sip some cold water slowly, and just take slow deep breaths! Sometimes getting outside and going for a walk helps too! Good luck to you!

Re: Anxiety Sufferers
Distraction, distraction and more distraction.
TV, Movies, Books, DH, whatever I can do to distract myself.
Deep slow breathing helps me sometimes too.

Re: Anxiety Sufferers
Like Lauren said, lots of distraction. Deep breathing. Focus on the positive. Know that it will pass

Re: Anxiety Sufferers
I try and bring myself back to the present. Usually when anxiety takes over its because my mind is not in the present. And definitely distraction.

Re: Anxiety Sufferers
I do something. Doesn't matter what, something that I have to concentrate on.
Usually doing something I like helps. Last night I made a lasagne and it really helped..I feel better today than I did yeterday.

Re: Anxiety Sufferers
I have the same problem. I dont always know what to do with myself either! But everyone always says to just keep busy, read, watch tv, go for a walk. My mother suffers from it too, so if she see's that I am having a hard time, she will ask me if I want to go shopping or something.

I get heart palpatations, have trouble getting a deep breath, and my mind races.
It used to be a lot more frequent.
I was put on Paxil prior to our wedding and that helped.
But I went off them when we started TTC. So for the last almost two years I have been drug free.
I find being off of BC helped me too. Something about the hormones set certain things off for me.

I get the heart palpatations and a feeling like I am shakey and just very not right. Like the feeling from having too much caffeine even though I didn't have any. Also I get short of breath and sometimes if it's really bad I feel like I am going to faint.

I get the exact same thing. As for how often - for me it happens in waves. I will be fine for months at a time and then be really bad for a few weeks etc.

Re: Anxiety Sufferers
I get palp's also, sweaty palms, very very shaky, trouble getting a breath, feeling as if I am going to pass out.
Sometimes, splashing my face with cool water helps, cool air on general, open spaces (so I dont feel like I can't get out) and a lot of the time, lying down or sitting with my head between my knees on the cold bathroom floor helps me.
Talking never helps me until the attack has passed. I never want to speak a word in the middle of one.
I started on lexapro 10mg 2 weeks ago and I am feeling much much better mentally. I do have some 'drowsiness" as a side effect which is a little hard to get through but I am still adjusting to it so hopefully I won't be as tired in a few weeks. I also have some minor bruising on my thighs but I am not sure if it's related to the lexapro, nexium (acid reflux) or something completely unrelated.

Re: Anxiety Sufferers
I get heart palpitations, shortness of breath, the thought the I am going to die starts to cross my mind and other irrational thoughts. I'm shaky and jittery and I get cotton mouth. Sometimes the walls feel like they are closing in around me and I need to find my "safe haven". It's the constant fear and panic, that bothers me the most. Yeah, that about sums it up..

Right this moment, I feel like my head is not attached to my body, I feel shakey, like I am going to die, or am having a heart attack. Things do not seem real.

Same here, with very bad headaches! I can't lay down when I get like this though b/c I start thinking more and I get even more worked up. I just try to keep busy, read a book or take deep breathes

You mentioned you take Paxil. You still feel like this on that drug? How long have you been on it, if you don't mind me asking?

Re: Anxiety Sufferers
I clean! It really helps me not to focus on the anxiety, the more I focus on the axiety the worse it gets. I need to keep myself moving in order to keep my mind from thinking about the anxeity. It really works. I just recently started taking paxil because I wasnt sleeping good and I started to get anxiety about losing sleep so my doc though it was a good idea to go on a low dose anti anxiety med. Im hoping to get off of it pretty soon but it def helps.
