Any doctor office or medical billing experts out there?

Does anyone know what the United Healthcare billing code UG stands for. I have one child that gets lab work billed as D1 which we don't have to pay on our deductible but have another child that is getting lab work billed as UG and have to pay?

After some googling - found this:

UG: We have this physicians or health care professional’s discounted rate towards your deductible. You have not yet exceeded your deductible amount;
therefore benefits are payable.

hmm doesn't make sense in my case. One son gets billed differently for the same lab work but one gets it put against his deductible and the other doesn't Thanks for the google look up though.

There are two things I can think of. But, I'm not a medical biller or coder, I work at the front desk of a doctors office.

1. One son has met his "individual" deductable for the year and his blood work no longer goes toward deductable.

2. Blood work for each son gets billed with a different diagnosis code. One of which falls under the catagory that would be billed under deductable and the other that wouldn't. It could depend on medical necessity.

Again, that is just my guess. Hope you figure it out, I'm sure United healthcare would be able to tell you exactly why.

I Was wondering that maybe its #2. He has a Autisum spectrum diagnosis. Could that possibly have something to do with it? Its definitely not #1

The only reason I haven't called United or the Doctors is if its a mistake I don't want to get back billed.

Also this was more for my own info. I dont want anything to change. Medical bills are expensive as it is.
