Any fun/cool/unusual Christmas traditions?
I thought this might be a fun topic.
Does anyone have any fun or unusual Christmas traditions? Ones you do every year, or even ones you're planning on doing this year because of Covid?

Nothing really out of the ordinary. The only "odd" thing with my family is that we are all obsessed with Salsoul Orchestra Christmas Album. We listen to it constantly and LOVE it. Every person that joins our family (husbands, wives) thinks we are nuts and it is running joke with all the inlaws. The album is 70s in it's finest!!

Normally we have Chinese food and go to the movies for our Jewish Christmas. It is really delightful. We will still do Chinese food but it will be a Netflix movie instead.

Because of Covid, our usual plans have changed. We're Catholic, but I kinda want to do this too! Just keep it low key.

I mix plain oats and cupcake sprinkles as "reindeer food" and my son sprinkles it in the yard for the reindeer to eat (since Santa always gets cookies and snacks).

DH and I see the Transiberian Orchestra concert every year. They're doing a virtual concert tonight that we'll watch.

DH and I watch Christmas Vacation every Christmas Eve after the kids go to bed. We're usually finishing wrapping or building any big gifts then, too.

My grandparents came from Denmark and we still follow some of their traditions. On Christmas Eve night, we sing songs while in a circle walking around the Christmas tree. Each of the kids gets to pick out what song they want to sing before opening up their presents from the extended family.

If the kids actually get up at a decent hour we can all open gifts together.
The last few years have been very tight and this year we have been blessed to have more gifts for the kids to open. While they are older, still excited for them to see what we got them as surprises.

Re: Any fun/cool/unusual Christmas traditions?
It's unusual because it seems like the whole world celebrates on the Eve rather than the day- but we don't . So our Christmas Eve involves pizza, calzones (the one time a year I eat a calzone actually), making break and bake cookies for Santa and wrapping last minute gifts etc. So laid back and relaxing. And we also watch the George C Scott version of A Christmas Carol that night usually too.
We recently started having dinner at this one restaurant we only go to this time of year- and it kind of became our Christmas tradition to eat there the Saturday night before Xmas every year. It's festively decorated and teh food is yummy. So we kind of made that our own new tradition. Doing that this year again.

Christmas Eve we drive to Dyker Heights and look at the Christmas lights, stopping at DD or Starbucks for hot chocolate first. It is SO crowded but we stay in our car nice and warm and blast Christmas music so we don't mind. I heard a lot of houses still decorates this year, so we will continue this tradition.
