Any good alternatives to diaper wipes?
I am now a mom for 1 week and we have gone through 2, maybe 3, packages of disposible diaper wipes. This can get expensive. Are there any good alternatives? TIA

Re: Any good alternatives to diaper wipes?
You could use wet wash cloths. You are going to have a lot of laundry to do though!
I find that if you buy in bulk, it isn't that expensive. I buy the big boxes at BRU for less than $10 and it lasts me a month. DS is 2 months old and we are still only on our second big box.

Re: Any good alternatives to diaper wipes?
I also think you are just getting used to wiping and stuff. You usually don't go through that many. A pack of wipes probably gets us through a week give or take a few days and blowouts :)

Re: Any good alternatives to diaper wipes?
They have more dirty diapers in the beginning so you're going through more wipes now. In a couple of months it will settle down and they'll only be pooping once a day, sometimes even less than that, so you won't use as many wipes.

You can make your own. A roll of Viva, baby oil, some essential oil and water. If you google it, many variations come up.

Re: Any good alternatives to diaper wipes?
you can use cloth wipes. I use these: Bum Genius flannel wipes
I also use this: Diaper lotion potion The lotion potion (used for cleaning since the wipes are dry) is kind of expensive, so I think I am going to start making my own.

Re: Any good alternatives to diaper wipes?
I agree with buying them in bulk from a wholesale club. Also like someone said sooner or later DC will be pooping less.

We used Cloth Wipes made from Flannel. We had a few dozen. Baby wash cloths work well too. We also used Cloth Diapers...

This is what we do at home. We only use wipes when we're out.

VIVA paper towels . It's like a cloth towel and we used it (just wet it with water) first 3 months. DD's skin was so sensitive we couldn't use wipes not even sensitive ones.

Re: Any good alternatives to diaper wipes?
i buy the BRU brand case of wipes refills- you put it into the previously bought case....
in NICU they use this paper towel which is folded into fours... and they run it under the water.

OMG it was a life saver(and a money saver) for us. My friend's pediatrician told her to use them so I decided to try too once I ran out of the ones I stole from the hospital (j/k) VIVA IS THE BEST!

Re: Any good alternatives to diaper wipes?
ok.. i do like Viva sheets for being extra soft but I dont think they are cheaper than wipes....plus then you have to go wet them in the sink everytime you want to do a diaper change...
The especially for baby wipes is 432 for $9... so its only 2 cents a piece... then sometimes BRU has a $2 off coupon too...
The Viva towels are 50 on a roll, and I always see it more than $1 a roll in the multipack... so we're also looking at 2 cents a piece...
