Any Howard Stern listeners re: people voting for Obama?
Did anyone hear Howard Stern this morning? Sal went to Harlem and asked random people who they were going to vote for in November and everyone was saying Obama. He asked why noone was voting for McCain and every individual said b/c they disagreed with McCain's policies and supported Obama's policies. Then Sal attributed McCain's policies to Obama and asked if they agreed with Obama, example "So you support Obama even though he is pro-life" and the person would say "Yeah I agree with pro-life"; "Do you support Obama even though he wants to keep the troops in Iraq" and the person would say " Yeah i think that we should stay in Iraq". He even said to the people "are you ok that Obama chose Palin as the VP" and they say "Yeah I think sarah Palin will do a good job and I am glad OBama picked her". It was absolutely amazing...actually totally frightening!

no way, really?
Just shows that there are people out there that either vote for their party or race just because.
Lots of uninformed people.

it reminds me of the Jay Leno skit I posted about the other day.
We as a nation are generally CLUELESS about our nation, our govt, and each other. so many people are apathetic, it's a shame.

I have a friend who is a McCain supporter. Ok, fine.
He asked me if I was really going to vote for Obama. I told him I was undecided. He said, do we really want a black guy as the president?
Nice...right?
He's a teacher..same guy who thinks he is Muslim.
Glad he doesn't teach social studies.
Ignorance.

Right. The purpose of the 'interviews' was that people really don't know the issues, and a particular candidate's stance on them. Just to show how people are sheep.
I heard it on the 8AM play - I was disappointed.
Vote for Stern/Quivers '08 !

I think a lot more people feel the same way as your friend they just dont want to admit it. And that is scary and sad. Sorry but i didnt know your pigmentation can determine if you can lead a country or not. In my job people have blatently told me that they will not vote for Obama bc he is black If you give me a political reason -- fine but the color of his skin!

Re: Any Howard Stern listeners re: people voting for Obama?
My post was to see if people were surprised b/c I was - the Palin thing blew my mind. My DH was not at all surprised - he agreed with the herd mentality. And I agree that it goes both ways. They were average citizens that were being interviewed - not drunks or crack heads like he sometimes interviewd. Robin was laughing at the fact that people didn't even flinch about the things that Sal was saying Obama - just agreeing. I must be naive! As much as people saying that they are voting for McCain because he is white I think there is a HUGE amount of black people that are voting for Obama b/c he is black. Not that this interview Howard conducted spoke for all black people at all, but it was Howard's way to see if black people were voting for Obama b/c he was black.

I agree with this as well, and I think there are people who come up with excuses so they don't have to admit they are racist, like saying he is too inexperienced or is likely to get assassinated. (I am not saying that if you believe these things you are racist, but I do believe there are many who are using these defenses to mask racism)

Re: Any Howard Stern listeners re: people voting for Obama?
there will be people who vote for Obama just because he is Black. There will be people who won't vote for him because he is black.
Just as there are people who won't vote for McCain bc he is old, or will vote for Palin because she is a woman, and vice versa.
sad but true.

Re: Any Howard Stern listeners re: people voting for Obama?
I have sen it on both sides, you would be surprised how uninformed people are, on Anderson Cooper 360 yesterday they asked some Alaskan who thier Govenor was and they did not know. Then they asked some if they knew that Sarah Pailin was picked to be the VP running mate of mcCain and they did not.
Its sad really because I would hope that every person who cast a vote, would do so after being informed on issues, not a persons race or sex.
As far as race goes, well it happens with both whites & blacks, Obama will get votes for him becasue he is balck, and probably even more votes against him becsue he is black, racism is alive and well in middle america, I think we forget this because we are in NY, which in essence is a melting pot. And on the flip side McCain will get votes because he is white and its comfortable for people who have issues with race (even if they don't admit it) and he willl loose votes with people who just want to see the first balck president. And as far as gender goes, well I think that one of the main reasons McCain pick Sarah Pailin was because she is a woman, and they are naive to think that we want woman in office so badly that it doesn't matter if she is the right person or not.
IMHO anyone who votes because of race or gender shoudl be ashamed of themselves.

Ok, the whole interview thing, Im not suprised at the herd mentality. It is very scary.
The racist nation thing after all these years, as of late really doesn't surprise me. I just moved to NC. I met a woman just talking casually (she was white) told me she left her job because "there were to many 'black' people who worked there and came in" I was shocked, then she told me "I don't like MIXED races" Who says these things??
So me being the wisearse I am, said to her, "Well Im pregnant and my DH is NOT white" she looked at me and WALKED AWAY!!!! Today in 2008. SAD.

Wow
And just like a PP mentioned it really surprises us because living in NY we don't really tend to experience blatant racism.

Well some friends and I were driving down to Florida and we stopped in a Georgia gas station that also had a small store attached to it, anyway I am looking around the store and the stuff they had for sale left me , they had a plauge that said and I quote "if you ain't white, you ain't right!"
Unbelivable in this day and age, but I guess no matter how much time passes racism will ALWAYS be alive an well in this country.
I thought to myself well you know what atleast I know where this person is coming form, but I think the ones who feel this way and hide it is probably worse. And there are many amongst us that feel this way.

That is just SAD!! I can never understand why people can hate someone because of the color of their skin. I look at people who are racist as ignorant and stupid.
Thank goodness my parents instilled in me that I should never judge anyone or hate anyone because of the color of their skin. I will make sure I instill this in Ella as well.
We are truly living in a sad world.
