Re: Any Howard Stern listeners re: people voting for Obama?
this is exactly why I am nervous about this election. My opinion aside, I feel that the majority of people have no idea who they truly *want* as president, but are following certain candidates blindly. Many are voting strictly based on race (this could go both ways)
it is a very scary time

Funny and scary at the same time. I bet most of those people won't vote anyway.

The racist nation thing after all these years, as of late really doesn't surprise me. I just moved to NC. I met a woman just talking casually (she was white) told me she left her job because "there were to many 'black' people who worked there and came in" I was shocked, then she told me "I don't like MIXED races" Who says these things??
So me being the wisearse I am, said to her, "Well Im pregnant and my DH is NOT white" she looked at me and WALKED AWAY!!!! Today in 2008. SAD.
that is horrible!!!
It's like another country down there isn't it? Gorgeous and good quality of like but the attitudes are so 1864 sometimes...

Re: Any Howard Stern listeners re: people voting for Obama?
I know there are people who would vote based on gender or race. But I think it sickens me that they have to go to harlem to point out that black ppl are voting for Obama becuase of Race. Just to make black ppl seem more ignorant when there are alot ot black ppl who are making a vote based on policies. I agree with a previous poster that the same can happen if the situation was reversed, yet that isnt being pointed out as much as it is pointed out that blacks are voting for Obama cause he is black. I just feel like skits like these pidgeon hole ppl and causes judgement.
This has been happening for years where ppl voted based on parties w/o ppl realizing the issues. So why is this such an issue now becuase race is involved. YOu will always have the voters that vote on campaign policies and the issues and you than you hav eyour ppl who vote cause they are Dem or Reb.

Re: Any Howard Stern listeners re: people voting for Obama?
I have to say I have seen both sides of the coin - I have worked in predominately white neighborhoods and have been ashamed of the racist attitudes and opinions have. I now work in a neighborhood whose population is predominately minority based and have seen and continue to see some eye opening "reverse" discrimination against me and a couple of colleagues that is quite disturbing. Unfortunately, this is the state of our country and I feel that if people could have more of an open and honest dialogue with each other it would solve more problems.

Its not just the South. My ex-boyfriend was of a different race and we encountered lots of racism throughout college (in Boston) and here in NY because of the fact that we were dating. Its unfortunate and surprising because you think that NY would be so much more open but when it comes right down to it people still make snide comments etc.

I think, and I may be wrong, but I think they did this b/c people were saying that white people were voting for Mccain b/c he was white and they were trying to see if maybe the same could be said with Obama voters. Like previous posters said, you are going to have white people vote for mccain b/c he is white, and black people vote for obama b/c he is black without even looking at the issues -

Re: Any Howard Stern listeners re: people voting for Obama?
I saw a recent poll and it was based on race.
I don't remember where it came from now, but it showed 57% for McCain from caucasian voters and 93% for Obama for black voters.
it goes both ways is what I'm getting at.
I wish I could find that poll now. I know I'm not 100% on the numbers or the details.

Re: Any Howard Stern listeners re: people voting for Obama?
It's all been so well said on this thread so there really isn't anything to add, especially since I agree with practically all of it.
But I will say this about the race issue: Racism exists on both sides of the coin in this election, and on both sides of the coin in this country, period.
For some reason, when it comes to one-on-one relationships between people of mixed races, there's friendship, comraderie, even intimacy. But when it comes down to group vs. group, there's a problem, even amongst those who have very close friends of the "other" race (whichever side one is on). It's very strange to me.

Oh ok than I stand corrected on what Howard ws trying to point out. I just went on a short rant cause I am so tired of white vs. black. Even though it so scary, there are always going to be ignorant ppl regardles

I heard this. I couldn't even laugh....
I'm all for McCain not getting a vote, but I would like it for the right reasons. Not the ignorant ones...

Re: Any Howard Stern listeners re: people voting for Obama?
According to the latest Census survey, men are roughly 49% of the US population. Therefore, McCain (and the rest of us men) is in a minority group.....

I have a friend who is a McCain supporter. Ok, fine.
He asked me if I was really going to vote for Obama. I told him I was undecided. He said, do we really want a black guy as the president?
Nice...right?
He's a teacher..same guy who thinks he is Muslim.
Glad he doesn't teach social studies.
Ignorance.
I think a lot more people feel the same way as your friend they just dont want to admit it. And that is scary and sad. Sorry but i didnt know your pigmentation can determine if you can lead a country or not. In my job people have blatently told me that they will not vote for Obama bc he is black If you give me a political reason -- fine but the color of his skin!
I agree with this as well, and I think there are people who come up with excuses so they don't have to admit they are racist, like saying he is too inexperienced or is likely to get assassinated. (I am not saying that if you believe these things you are racist, but I do believe there are many who are using these defenses to mask racism)
I also agree with this, and have even gotten that feeling from some of the posts on this very board.
The sad truth is that if you went to a McCain town and did the same thing to a bunch of his supporters, you would probably get the same result. Howard Stern grosses me out sometimes. Clearly he is trying to fuel a fire, his reason--unknown to me.
On another note, didn't Sarah Palin "accidentally" agree with Obama's policies in her first televised interview? I can't remember the details...pregnancy brain coupled with too much information!! Can anyone confirm this?

I happened at a cheese steak joint in Philly. a voter asked her a question about Pakistan, and she answered in a way more in line with Obama's view.
then, McCain and Palin went on Couric to fix that, McCain telling us all that she (Palin) is on board and agrees with him.
I guess it just goes to show how even the candidates can confuse themselves with the issues

Sadly, I'm not surprised and think that this type of thinking extends to both sides of the political spectrum.
