any info anyone could offer would be GREATLY appreciated right now....
hi all..... i haven't been on here in what seems like forever. my son was born 6/29/06 and my daughter was born 3/24/08 so its definitely been quite some time. anyway, i'm pregnant for the third time- but only about 4 weeks 2 days...(i know- thats like barely even preggo- lol)... i have a major concern though and my doctor is out of the country and i just saw his PA and i'm REALLY upset at what she said to me. heres the story as brief as i can make it..... i had an x-ray done on my hip last monday (would have been 3weeks and a day). it was not a shielded xray. they only took two images. i've been so concerned since sunday night after i took the test. i didn't think i was pregnant. anyway, bc of my concern i called the doctor early just to ask the risks and whatnot involved. they had me come in to see the PA who really only made me 100% more upset. she asked if i would be comfortable doing a certain procedure (termination- makes me ill to write it). i told her no. i then felt like she almost discarded the pregnancy. didn't look me in the eye even one time! i asked her the odds of the baby being born healthy and fine and she said i don't know probably 50/50...isn't that the same with any pregnancy? babies are miracles.....i asked what could be wrong with the baby and she said could have mjor deformities and when i first said my concern was that i had had an xray- before even looking at me she said oh, thats bad, thats really bad. admittedly bad. without even looking me in the eye! anyway, my question is has anyone else been through having xrays early on in pregnancy and the baby has been fine? or what was the experience- good or bad- for you if you went through something similar? i just hate the waiting game and it feels like i could be playing it for quite some time. thanks to all for any help! hope you are all well!!!!

I've always been told (and heard) that anything you do, or did before you even knew you were PG (like before the missed AF), would not harm the baby. You may have not even implanted at 3 weeks because thats technically only 1 week after ovulation.
I hope you are able to get some answers soon!

excuse my french but the PA sounds like a real. . . well whatever
i found a link, and it looks like the risk is sooo minimal
XRAYs during pregnancy
Don't be alarmed if you had an x-ray examination before you knew you were pregnant. Remember that the risk is considered very small. However, if you are worried about the radiation exposure your baby may have received, you can discuss your concerns with your physician.

Unless you LOVE and trust this doctor, I would leave this offi ce asap. She should NOT be telling you any of that. She has no clue what is going to happen, if anything, and should not make blanket statements such as that.
You know how many women probably have xrays around one month conception? Alot. I am sure.
Go get yourself to another doctor to get a second opinion. Years ago, like when my mother had me,xrays during pregnancy were STANDARD. So odds are all will be ok.
I would be greatly concerned too but I think there are many things you can do to find out the health of the baby, before "terminating".

I have a friend who had major tests and xrays before she knew she was pg. She was trying too, and they did a test at the hospital but it was too early to detect. She was worried too once she found out she was pg but her baby was born healthy... Try not to worry too much and make sure you tell the DR what the PA said to you..

I had dental X-Rays at about 2 1/2 weeks preggo. I had no idea I was pregnant at the time. DD is a happy, healthy, very smart 1 1/2 year old. I would def say something to your Dr. about that PA. What a piece of work she is... Even if there is a major issue, she should have never reacted that way.

I had a chest xray the week before I found out I was pregnant with my DD. I was freaked out but my doctor was not concerned at all. The risk is VERY minimal. I would leave that office ASAP!

I had xrays when i was almost 6 weeks pregnant ( I found out I was pregnant about 2 days later via a pregnancy test)
I told the doctor and he told me at that stage of the pregnancy there was absolutely nothing to worry about
Seamus was born perfectly healthy!

Re: any info anyone could offer would be GREATLY appreciated right now....
I am so sorry that the PA was so cold..and not very helpful.
I know someone who had x-rays when she was pregnant (didn't know she was pregnant at the time) and she received a strong recommendation to terminate...but at the time the did not do the screening and testing that they do now...she said if they did she would have waited. As painful as it might have seemed to go longer into the pregnancy only to possibly terminate she would have like the option of hope because like anything else...it's a 50/50.
I tell you this because it is the only thing I have to share besides lots of and . She felt she had to make the decision but to this day wishes she had other options and didn't have to do it blindly. I don't know much about xrays but I do think that you either need to talk to your doctor if possible or get a second opinion.

Wow! That PA is a total douche. I would run, not walk away from that practice if this is the kind of professionals they hire. Sorry that the PA made you feel horrible... You should be fine! At least I was, when I had an xray last year when I was about 4 weeks preggo. Hang in there sweetpea!

My co-worker had xrays and all kinds of tests well into her pregnancy I think about 16 weeks as she has severe gastro issues and other issues caused by her pregnancy but she did not know she was preggo (she was having AF). Her DD is just fine she healthy and pretty sharp for a 13 month old

Re: any info anyone could offer would be GREATLY appreciated right now....
i have to say a HUGE thank you to all of you for your kind words and thoughts. I just sat here and read them all to my husband and we were both really touched. to all that had any type of experience similar to mine and could offer positive thoughts, your words of wisdom are SO APPRECIATED. my head is still spinning, and i just wish i could fastforward the clock and be able to speak directly to my doctor. my husband is ready to tear into this lady and pretty much wants her job. i've been such a mess all day. at this stage in the game, all i can do is have hope and pray until i know something further. i do believe though that this baby will be ok...i have to right?! i have no definitive reason not to. and sometimes, hope is all we can have! thank you again! i'll certainly keep you posted on the upcoming events!
