Any moms here make their own organic food?

I am seriously considering making my own baby food and could use some tips on where to start....I am not very good at cooking to begin with....

I did make a few things- I'd make homemade applesauce with organic apples, pear purees, etc...
I also make a concoction of poached chicken, brown rice and peas.
After a while, it was easier and not much more expensive to just by Earth's Best organic food...

I make all our baked goods as organic - I buy all the ingredients at whole foods or Trader Joe's.

When Alex was younger, I made organic veggies/fruit for her too - there are a few great vegetarian baby cookbooks on Amazon that I ordered, and we joined an organic farm co-op, so I would use the veggies/fruits that we got from the farm to incorporate into the recipes.

Its easier then you would think.

My advice is to start with a book.

I suugest Super Baby Foods by Ruth yaron and one of Annabel Karmel's books..they are all similair, 100 puree ones is good.

Then you just need to figure out what to use ( blender, food processor etc) and some ice cube tryas to freeze.

All the books tell you steo by step how to steam the foods, puree etc.

I do! It really isn't very hard at all-I recommend the Annabel Karmel books-they are great!

How did you join an organic fruit co-op?

Also, how long can you freeze the food for? Sorry if that sounds dumb...

I saw Earth's Best in Target and bought a couple of jars and I also use their Rice and Oatmeal cereal.....I think I might switch to that instead of Gerber.
