Moms of 9 mos olds or older who used jar baby food
When it came time to start table foods what did you offer? Can you share what worked and what didn't? I've tried some stuff but DD has a fierce gag reflex and I'm nervous.

I tried noodles the other day and no good. He likes bananas but they're just kind of hard for him to pick up (slippery!). He mostly eats Cheerios right now, and Earth's Best cookies. He still has the gag reflex pretty bad, so I'm taking it slow.

Re: Moms of 9 mos olds or older who used jar baby food
The first table food I tried was gerber puffs. He didn't care for it in the beginning, it took him about a week to get use to it. Now loves it. I have since given him pastina, with hard boiled egg yolk. He really likes that too. He also likes, cheese, pancakes, bread, yobaby yogurt. I try to give him a little bit of whatever I am eating. He likes to eat whatever we are eating. I don't give him much, just to try.

I'm in the same boat, Matteo doesn't seem to want to eat 'real' food. I tried the puffs, he shuts his mouth so tight, and his eyes! He'll pick them up but not put them in his mouth. Let me know how you do with it. Keep me updated!

He's had Puffs, Cheerios, and bread cubes.
Now we're on to YoBaby yogurt, mashed bananas, polly-o string cheese, or I'll offer a little of what we're eating (little pieces of chicken, mashed potatoes, dessert) but just a taste

Oh, I forgot about the YoBaby yogurt! Jackson loves that. I just bought some yesterday that has cereal in it. He loves the Gerber puffs too.

Andrew has had pastina and puffs so far. I am going tonight to pick up the Yobaby for him.
I also tried the Zweiback toast but he hated it.
Oh and scrambled eggs but he didn't like them at all.

Re: Moms of 9 mos olds or older who used jar baby food
Try avocado in small cubes, overcooked ditalini with a tiny bit of parmesan & butter (overcooked pasta of any kind I guess, as long as its small but the ditalini are easy to pick up) I made my son the worlds tiniest omelet the other day with the egg yolk and some cheese - it was easy for him to pick up and eat. He doesnt gag on stuff so he's been eating alot more but I think if you stick with super soft stuff till she gets use to chewing (or mashing if she only has 1 or 2 teeth) and the gag reflex should get better.

Re: Moms of 9 mos olds or older who used jar baby food
I think Lauren will be a table food girl before I think! She loves everything we eat, I just cut it up tiny and she eats it right up. Yes, she does gag every now and then, but she does ok overall. Here's what we've tried...
Cheerioes Puffs scrambled egg yolk cut up pieces of American cheese cut up cooked veggies, like green beans and carrots so far Gerber apple and peach dices (she has a hard time picking these up!) banana pieces Arrowroot cookies Ditalini (pasta, just plain on her tray) rotisseire chicken Thomas' corn cakes mashed potatoes pastina (I mix in a jar of veggies in it when she has it) small pieces of pancake small pieces of waffles
she also has her Yobaby yogurt and other jarred baby food still, but she is looking more and more for stuff to pick up and her on her own. So anything we eat, I try and let her eat too. She has 8 teeth too, so its so funny to see her pick up something and actually take a bite!

Grace has a gag reflex as well. We do mostly jar food, but here are a few foods that Gracie did not gag on and loves. HTH YoBaby yogurt Mashed potatoes bananas, mangos, avacado (all need to be mashed up) applesauce
ETA: Grace was a late teether and only has two teeth

Re: Moms of 9 mos olds or older who used jar baby food
thanks everybody. I'm sure yogurt would be a breeze but she had that milk protein allergy so I'm not going there yet. but I'll try the egg yolk. we haven't done that yet. I'm also too nervous about cheese too b/c it's dairy.

Marron loves Cheerios! She is now refusing her morning oatmeal and preferring the Cheerios instead. I have also given her: small pieces of pancakes cheese turkey breast puffs (which she now turns her head at) those dehydrated fruits from the baby aisle cut up peaches pizza crust italian bread
there are other things I have given her that she hasn't done so well with so I don't really remember them, other than cut up green beans.

Re: Moms of 9 mos olds or older who used jar baby food
We just really started giving her what we eat, just at night with our dinner.
She is a champ puffs and cheerios.
We also give her egg yolks Cheese-american, cheddar, mozz chicken peas mashed pototoes crackers Baby cookies fruit pieces-dole fruit cups yogurt with frozen pureed strawberries and blueberries Frozen peaches Bananas italian bread pizza crust
yesterday she ate a whole homemade manicotti and loved it. she prob shouldn't have had it since it's made with eggs and ricotta, but she loved it and has really no reactions to food.

Re: Moms of 9 mos olds or older who used jar baby food
Matthew has had pastina and Puffs (the puffs he'll eat if I feed them to him otherwise he'll just play with them)
Other stuff he's tried are soft cooked carrots. Baked Potatoes ( I mush it up though) A little bit of meatballs and a little bit of rice...He's only tasting these things I just listed. But let me tell you he loves the carrotts!!! He is practically ready to jump out of his walker for more...

Re: Moms of 9 mos olds or older who used jar baby food
All my girls were fed table food fairly early...Baby carrots were good starters..just cook them until they are really mushy..they are easy for them to pick up and mush right in their mouth..
There are some other pastas that are bigger than pastina that are good for finger feeding...
additionlly what I would do was to thicken up the jarred baby food with cereal letting it get thicker and thicker..that way they got used to the consistency without it being totally a new thing...
Hope this helped.

Re: Moms of 9 mos olds or older who used jar baby food
DD likes to eat what we're eating!
But, she loves her cheerios, just anything that she can chew on even though she has no teeth at 9.5 months! So, since she's not so interested in her baby foods, we mix some textures into it, like finely cut up chicken. She'll take potatoes and carrots too.
Oh, she loves yogurt! Sometimes we put some cheerios in there too!

Re: Moms of 9 mos olds or older who used jar baby food
Sweet potatoes are good to start with. So are cheerios and avocado and banana. Ava is on all table food now, and I find that pancakes, waffles, pastina, rotini, chicken soup and potatoes were easy starts for her.
ETA: I make ground turkey meatloaf and cut it up into small cubes. she LOVES this! Also turkey meatballs (we don't eat red meat).

Re: Moms of 9 mos olds or older who used jar baby food
My son is NOT on table food yet. I want to keep my title of QUEEN CHICKEN OF FEEDING CHILDREN UNDER THE age of 2.
Im too nervous to feed them table foods. (this is the only area where "oh # 3 , easy street" doesnt apply for me) The other day I was left with my 18m old niece (and 6 other kids (my boys and her sibs) so on top of the fact that it was me and 7 kids I cut up the food so small, poor kid was grabbing handfulls as Im saying "chew chew, good girl, chew, mangia, brava!"
TAble food is the furthest thought in my mind, maybe next year
