Any newborn moms with a dog(s)
One of my dogs is great, always has been
My other dog has always been kind of a PITA, but so cute....well since we've had DD home, he's acting SO annoying, pulling stuff out of the garbage, asking to go out even though he just went pee--I put him out and he runs figure 8's around the yard like he's going to run away
Granted, they get less time on walks or going to the park now cause of DD, but I think he's acting out to get attention
Am I the only one here? I swear I'm gonna lose it on him one of these days
(A friend told me about a book called, the other dog (its about a dog's perspective of the new baby)--maybe I should check that out!)

Re: Any newborn moms with a dog(s)
I have two dogs that are like children. I can't say they acted up more when baby came home. They do have their issues but nothing like that.
All i can say is I try to remember they are just dogs, they just want love and attention. They are like little children. DH told me he read that dogs are comparable to toddlers, age wise, so we keep that in mind and just remember they have needs too. They feel the changes, and miss the time/attention/walks etc. So Dh and I always try to include them whenever we can, love them and spend alone time with them when we can, go on extra walks with them and baby, etc. So far, so good for us, they are all doing great together.
Nothing makes me sadder than when i see my male dog seeming upset and bored and feeling left out. they are my babies.
I know it's hard, they do wear on your patience just like if you had other children and had to split your time. That's how I see it anyway. Hang in there. It will get b etter as baby gets older.

Re: Any newborn moms with a dog(s)
I think its an adjustment for everyone and hopefully it passes (I hope) Im having issues with one of mine! He's been getting aggressive with my other dog when the baby cries. The aggression is only towards the other dog (who is 10 yrs old..poor thing doesnt need this) dh has been trying to walk him more and we are trying to be patient..he is crate trained and runs to his crate and growls when dd cries (not everytime but enough) it has calmed down alot but he still has his momemts. I really hope this passes soon....both my dogs are trained and are great dogs but this does have me very upset

Luckily Maddie has been great with Ann. You could tell the first week or so she was a little depressed about not being the center of attention anymore (she'd put herself in her crate or go to her bed in another room from where we were or be totally clingy).
I'm sure yours will get adjusted to the new situation soon enough!

It will surely take an adjustment period but it GETS BETTER! We have 3 dogs that we babied(word?) like crazy before Mattea's birth. Then all of a sudden a baby came and they were second fiddle. THe worst they ever do is steal and eat her binkies but I can handle that! They are extremely loving and affectionate towards her and actually warn us whe she is starting to wake up if we cannot hear her yet!

Re: Any newborn moms with a dog(s)
It is hard Otis was our baby for 5 years until Riley came along 13 weeks ago. I try to spend one on one time with him when Hubby is with the baby. we also keep him in the picture if we are all on the floor he is with us looking at us or playing with his toy. If I'm feeding her a bottle he will lay between my legs. He did adjust really well to her. We also make sure when I walk in the door I go to him first and give him love then over to the baby. He is a pug great family dog
