My mom brought home a booklet of a thousand things to go in the city, I'll see if she still has it. It seems there are a ton of activities for children in the city......

Jess,
It goes back to the nanny vs daycare thing for me. I see Gina's (curliegirl) son who is so social bc of daycare. Granted Ethan is only 4.5 months old and I don't intend on putting him in daycare while I am still living in NY until he is at least 2 (it's ridiculously expensive) He gets to interact with other babies and I think that's important, at any age. It also gets him out of the apartment beyond going to the park. When he isn't there (he only goes 1-2 a week) my nanny takes him to the children's section of Barnes and Noble and he sits on the floor with her and other children for a scheduled story-time session.

Again, I am new at this and have ZERO clue what I am doing, but I think there is more good, than harm KWIM???

And to answer, "I" can't take him to these things Chat Icon my nanny takes him. Makes me sad that I can't see him having fun, but at least I know he isn't home staring at a TV all day.

Nan, I think the part of me that thinks it's a waste is the part protecting my soul from the other half....that he wouldn't be able to go anyway. Chat Icon

I'm in the high 40s on the east side and also the first mom in my group of friends. DD is 3.5 mos - our dc's can be friends. Let me know if you want to meet up sometime - I'm on leave until July and am only back 4 days a week. I could use some mommy friends too! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I lived in the 80s but we (or rather my nanny...) used to do Gymboree class once a week (but did the playgym every single day), Barnes & Noble storytime and library storytime. In the summer Carl Schurz park has GREAT summer programs for kids if she doesnt mind walking up there.
Carl Schurz Events
I think Central Park has some fun events too. I SOOOO miss the city!

Re: Any NYC mommies? I have a little guy and was wondering what you do with LOs...

Me!! Im on the UES (high 80s/low 90s)

My DD is now 16 mths.

I do Gymboree playgym and maybe music, Barnes and Noble, Carl Schurz Park (the best!!) and a lot of walking.

When my DD was around that age I did a lot of walking and going to the park, laying on the blanket on the grass, baby swings etc

In another couple of months you can do more like what i mentioned above and the Childrens Museum

I like this website it has some good ideas:

Mommy Poppins

I also have no mommy friends in Manhattan, all my friends are in Bklyn so im open to a GTG or smtg!

I'm in Brooklyn, too, and have no clue what to do with kids Chat Icon

Please please share ideas! I'll be a SAHM at least till DS is 1 and will want to keep us busy!

Right now, all we do is walks in the bassinet stroller.

A Brooklyn/Manhattan GTG would be great! I need some mommy friends who aren't related to me Chat Icon

YAY! I'm a UES mom (80's & 3rd) and would LOVE to meet up. We go to central park, carl schurz park, the met, barnes & noble. My last day of work is next friday, after which I will be a SAHM, so can meet up any day. I have hardly any mommy friends either except a few women at work :(

ETA: my DD is 10.5 months

Re: Any NYC mommies? I have a little guy and was wondering what you do with LOs...

I'm in Queens but could possibly make a midtown GTG; DS is 20 months so he might be the senior dude in the group Chat Icon

NYC ladies, it's a once in a while thing but Babylovesdisco was great; also I take a toddler & mommy yoga class here in queens 1xweek and it is FANASTIC, the toddlers learn so much I wish we could do it every day!!!!!

Check out local yoga classes, even he infant classes are GREAT and they do learn a LOT in that 1hr per week!!!!! Once they start walking they'll "graduate" to the toddler class, and you can totally TELL the kiddos who took the class as infants, they definitely have a leg up (pardon the pun Chat Icon) on the toddlers who are "new" to the whole thing!!!

There is a GREAt park in midtown that I take Ethan to. It's on the east end and 48th Street.

How about something in June?

Fridays are good for me... it just needs to be near a subway or in bay ridge b/c I dont drive. LMAO. One of the downsides of living in Brooklyn, I've always have the train or bus to take me where I need to go. LMAO.
