I am searching for living room furniture and it cannot get away from light beige colors and even ivory (crazy). I am specifically looking for fabric because we already have leather and they're not comfortable.

We have a den, where the kids play and watch T.V. So they shouldn't be using them that much.

I just have a vision in my head and don't want a dark sofa.

Anyone have kids and light furniture... That still looks nice?

I have a white fabric couch. It had held up kver the past 4 years.
Dd knows she's not allowed on it. She's really good about it. We actually very rarely sit in ourselves haha. We use it when we have company. Peoe said we were crazy but I love it

we have a white leather sofa and our kid jumps on it with his shoes on and its holding up surprisingly well. I spot clean with mr clean magic eraser if necessary (scuff marks) and condition it every few months.

why would I let my son jump on the sofa with shoes on? cause its a 5 year old sofa and I want a new one lol

I do and I put a thin layer of white fabric (you can get this at a fabric store) over the seat cushions for everyday use and when we have company I take of the fabric. Also there is absolutely no eating in my living room...everything food item and beverage is consumed at the dning table.

I have a light beige, it looks horrible if I don't have it professionally cleaned twice a year.

I do. I put covers over it.
It was one of my less smart moves : don't do it.

Ours is light beige (PB oat) but its a very washable fabric. My friend has the BP twill in white and is forever freaking out over her 4 yo on it. I think its not so bad if you don't let them eat on it.

Our light beige microfiber looks terrible and we get it steamed 2x a year. I'm ready to toss it. Our more formal furniture is even lighter, but is fabric and holds up much better. I feel like you see every little mark on microfiber, but I agree, I just can't do a dark couch.

We had a light beige microfiber couch and loveseat. I feel like my cats did more to damage it than DS did. But there was a lot of milk spilled on it over time and it looked disgusting (between that and my one cat using the leg as a scratching post).

We got rid of it and now have a dark leather couch which we inherited from my in-laws -- easier to clean but not my first choice in colors.
if you go beige, don't allow any food / drink near it.

Adding: in our less formal living room, we had red leather couches. They brightenned up everything! Now we have dark leather furniture that looks great (accented by red and beige pillows, rugs, walls and curtains). Leather is great with kids. We don't allow food out of the kitchen, but have had our older color with crayons on sofas (he found one on the floor) and our younger smear her poop on our rug. Even if you are careful, stuff happens.

We have a light colored couch and DD is on it all the time. Its cloth and the covers zip off so we've been able to wash it when needed (and we've needed to as she's spit up on it and diapers have leaked and I think there was some crayon at one point). As long as its washable go for it.

I have an ivory couch in my lvg rm. People come over and cannot believe I have that color with two small kids. Honestly, I do not see what the big deal is. When they eat they sit at the table..that is how I was raised, and that is how I am raising them. You do not walk around w/ food. When they are done eating I clean their hands.

We do, it's a very light beige and still looks brand new (although it's only about 2 1/2 years old). It's in the living room that we don't use as much, there's no tv in there but we do spend time in there daily. That said, we are pretty strict about no food out of the kitchen, we don't wear shoes in the house and I change DD's clothes if she comes in from playing outside and is dirty. So we're a little nuts about keeping things clean.

I have beignet taupe couches for our main living. They are a year and half old and still look great. I had them cleaned once and that was only because DD threw up and I couldn't clean it well. It is a heavy fabric. We use it everyday

I also do not allow any shoes on the couch, no eating in the family room ( the family room, EIK and kitchen are all open to one another) and the dog rarely goes it, but he doesn't shed.

In the basement we have brown microfiber and I feel like you see everything on them.

We do, but we put a slipcover on it. When DS gets older we will uncover it. When he consistently takes his shoes off when he gets home Chat Icon

Re: Any of you have small children and light colored (almost white) sofas?

I debated this same question for so long and finally went ahead and ordered! I'm not a dark color person and not into patterned couches. At the end of the day, this couch is for my formal living room - I do not envision the kids in there much at all - we have a family room, a den, a basement play room and their bedrooms to play! I'll let you know how it works out! I'm hoping for the best! That said, the couch was $$$ so I got the protection plan which will cover me for 5 yrs if someone destroys the couch with a glass of juice or a paint brush Chat Icon

I have a light gray/taupe microfiber and I hate it, but I think it's more about the microfiber than the color. It just shows every water mark--not cool when your dog and kids nap on it (and drool). We're planning to go for a fabric couch next but I do want to stay in similar color family.

I have white upholstered chairs and a upholstered chairs sofa and they are crisp white. I have an almost 1 and an almost 3 year old. So far they are clean. However, they are in a room the kids do not regularly play in and I also bought insurance!

Thank you all. OK, so no micro fiber. I', still looking into it, I am still loving ivory, light beige, but now trying to find something more dark beige/gray so that I don't drive myself crazy.

That Ikea sofa looks really comfy, but I was looking for something a bit more formal.
