Any one else hate taking vacations...???
I despise vacation time...for me it's more work then it is fun!!!! Between planning, booking, packing, loading, and then include dealing with the kids, their sleeping schedules, their eating schedules, their tantrums, so on and so forth the thought of us taking a vacation in a few months makes me want to cry when I think about all I have to do!!!

I can see where you're coming from... change can be difficult, but it also depends on the vacation.
I have to agree with Bethany though... Nope. Love vacations.
We had a great time in Aruba, but I did hate packing, planing, going through the airport and sitting on the plane with a toddler on a cramped plane, etc.
Once we got in the warm sun and sat on the beach it was worth it

I think you may be alone on this one. The vacation being over and UNpacking are the only things I hate about vacations. The other stuff is so worth it!
Where are you going?

I'm with you. I used to hate the hassle of packing, travelling etc BEFORE I had kids- I can't even imagine travelling now that we have a DD. I think we'll be doing a lot of STAY cations!

I agree with you for the most part and also love the idea of staycations.
I hate the beach....the sand is all over the place. Sadly the kids love it, so I will have to suck it up this year. We did a week in Myrtle Beach last summer. It was hard packing and planning, but we had a good time (except that whole sand thing...ha).
I plan on doing Sesame, stay over, and Dutchwonderland again in PA. It was quick and painless. The kids had a great time.

I only hate the prep work. I feel like I do 100% of the planning, booking, shopping, packing, laundry to get ready for it. Once we hit the road though, it's worth every minute of preparation! LOVE vacations!!!

That's your problem - you couldn't pay me to go to a place like that or that other one...Great Wolf - I'd rather stick needles in my eyes! I am in the midst of packing for Fla - our first trip with our 9 mo old...the packing is stressing me a little but I can't wait to get away and just relax a little and have fun!

Re: Any one else hate taking vacations...???
I used to love vacations when it was just me and DH.
Now with the kids, I hate it. Even if it's somewhere we want to go, it's just not fun anymore with the hassle of the kids.
The packing, the sleep issues, the eating issues, the whining.
It's way more stress than fun and then the thought that I just blew XX dollars to stress myself out makes me want to

Re: Any one else hate taking vacations...???
Sorry I have to say I LOVE vacations and will jump at any chance to get away!
I happen to really love the planning - I even help a lot of friends plan their vacations b.c I really just enjoy it.
Now I WILL say that I hate packing - to me that is the worst part of the trip. BUT after 30 something years of going away I have learned to make up a list well in advance. I start getting stuff (sunscreen, tooth paste, shampoo etc) together like a month before and just put it aside. I try to do a little bit each week otherwise I'm running around trying to get it all done the last minute and I feel more stressed than I did when we weren't going anywhere. But if I do that and pack those things in advance - than all I have to do it put clothing in the bags the day before I'm good. If you try that it makes it a lot more tolerable.
My feeling is that if you aren't enjoying your vacations maybe you aren't picking the right ones? While some people LOVE to go on cruises other people might pick them because they are popular but maybe it isn't the right choice for that other person. I feel like if you aren't excited then maybe you should explore some other options. Maybe try something totally different OR maybe try shorter trips - that are within driving distance to start.
Also if you hate the planning you might be someone who would do better with a TA, usually I feel like unless you are going somewhere totally foreign to you like Asia or Europe you can probably book and plan your own trip. But if you hate planning maybe you need a good TA who will do everything for you so all you have to do is basically show up.
To me vacations aren't as much about relaxing they are more about getting some good quality family bonding time in. At home we always have errands or places we have to be - so we go to the zoo for one day or the park in the mornings BUT to me that is not the same as having a week with DH and the girls alone with nothing we have to do except just having fun

I don't mind the packing, the planning, or the travel, it's the fact that the boys schedules are going to be off. Teddy hates airplanes, always has, so we avoid them, now we have Andrew the car hater, then when we get there I am worried about were is Teddy, is Andrew bored, do we have everything we need, DH is complaining he is tired from the drive, Andrew is screaming because he wants to crawl on cement, and both kids are stir crazy. I am very organized and everything is planned to the tee, we are never without anything, and I already have our vacation toiletries saved from our last ones, I just dread them. I HATE CHANGE, I never sleep great in hotel rooms, Teddy gets clingy in them because it's not his bed, so I get stuck sleeping with Kicky Mcgee, and by the time we get home I am

Re: Any one else hate taking vacations...???
I LOVE to travel and whenever we do, 100% of the planning lies of my shoulders. I end up spending a ton of time researching the best options (not only for the hotel and plane etc, but also for how to maximize our time there). I enjoy it for the most part, but I do get stressed sometimes - to me, it's worth it though.
HATE the unpacking when we get home. HATE IT. DH usually does it now though and that makes it much easier. We usually both pack.
Now, we've only been on 1 vacation since having DS (to Great Wolf), so I'm not sure how it will be for future trips. We're going to Disney this summer so it will be our first airplane ride and "big" vacation with DS. Hopefully it won't be too bad and the fun will outweigh the hassles!

Those things I TOTALLY understand - seeing as I have one child who is strong willed and high sprited etc. The other one is cranky when off schedule. DD#1 gets car sickness. I do try to keep them on as much of their regular schedule as possible when we go away. I don't know what kind of vacations you take so I'm not speaking to you - but I know with a lot of my friends when they go away they stay up much later, get up earlier, eat long meals, etc and I think the big change does affect them.
