Any other "new moms" sleep deprived?

What to do? DD is 3 weeks old and she hardly sleeps. It seems now when we put her down after she eats, she starts crying immediately. At times I want to cry myself, because I am sooooo tired..and would love nothing more than for her to sleep.

I really hope it gets better...

Of course it gets better. It just depends when.

My DS is 4 months old and he DID sleep through the night, but for the last month of so that has gone out the window.

I think a major part of parenthood is being sleep deprived....even teenagers keep their parents up at night.

Thank god my teen doesn't...yet..LOL!
I knew it would be a transition for me because it's been so long since I've had to do this, and I tried to prepare myself for it, but you really can't. I can only hope she doesn't turn out like my son was up every 2 hours until she's 3. By then my real age will show!!! Chat Icon

Re: Any other "new moms" sleep deprived?

It will get better. My DS was up every 3-4 hours until he was around 10 weeks, and then he started sleeping 6 hours...shortly thereafter (probably around month 4) he'd sleep 11-12 hours at night without waking.

Hang in there Chat Icon

Re: Any other "new moms" sleep deprived?

Juliette slept through the night by 6 weeks, Kristopher is up and alert from about 2-6. He just went back to sleep a little while ago. I have been goign on 1-2 hours a night since he came home.

What makes it worse is that Juliette is still adjusting and she has been getting up most nights and wanting to come in my bed which she NEVER did before.

It has gotten much better for us once we started using the miracle blanket. He started out sleeping 5-6 hours at a time. Now he will go from 8:30-9am. It's awesome!

I wanted another child and am happy I have her. I was young when I had my son, and the circumstances are a lot different.

Re: Any other "new moms" sleep deprived?

Oh boy do I remember being sleep deprived. I don't know how I functioned! She was up every 2-3 hours in the beginning and it was just me, so I had zero help. It gets better! I remember DS didn't sleep through the night until 4 mos, but DD was a good little girl and started about 2.5 mos. Now she sleeps 12 hours and last night it was 14! Hang in there! Chat Icon

Me, me, me! And DH is USELESS! Thankfully my mom was here helping out for the last 2 weeks...but she leaves tomorrow. I will officially be sleep deprived after that!

do u leave the miracle blanket on the whole time? b/c i thought it cant be on for longer then 8 hours straight and/or 10 hours altogether. also do u get up at all with your DS. I find my DS will sleep in it around 6-7 hours straight (till around 5-5:30AM), start to fuss, so i give him a bottle and diaper change and then he goes down for another 2-3 hours and gets up b/t 8-9AM
Thanks!Chat Icon
