there is a place in west babylon I believe called Evolutions, my friend told me about them, they have 2 stylists that specialize in curly hair. I have not used them yet, but I know of 3 people that have been happy with them that have curly hair.

Devachan Salon in Soho is supposed to be amazing. I have quite a few friends that have been there and love it. I know they specialize in curly hair. I've never been (don't have curly hair) but I have used some of their products. Good stuff!

Curly hair is tough to cut and too many people think that they can do it even though they can't!

I go to a small salon in Queens to a guy who specializes in curly hair and who is the only stylist whose chair I leave without crying! He also never charges extra for the hair being curly, it's just a regular fee the salon charges for hair cuts. Let me know if you want his number. Chat Icon

You need to go to a STYLIST who knows what they're doing - Skip Ouidad - total waste of money and everyone get the same haircut -and they cut everyone's hair w/ the same one technique - regardless of your hair type - Just b/c someone has curly hair doesn't mean it's all the same !! - There are different textures, different curls - hair responds differently to different cuts and products - etc etc

Same with Devachan (I had the WORST experience here - the girl botched my hair so badly that my sister who was afraid to cut my hair and screw it up almost Chat Icon ) It took over a year for my hair to get back to 'normal' after I went to that place -

You know, there was time when I wanted to splurge on one of those, but I kept on hearing mixed reviews about both Devachan and Quidad. Too many people were unhappy with their services for me to justify the insane prices they charge!!!

I totally agree with what Marisa said. I got a great cut there - well, it was great for about 1 week until it started to grow out. Chat Icon My hair is super fine and needs a lot of help to curl properly. And she's totally right - everyone gets the same cut, just at different lengths.

I do love their products though, I was very very happy with their gel and UV spray.

Re: Any recs on a stylist that specializes in only cutting curly hair?

I go to the Cactus in Deer Park and see Rose. Two years ago I was determined to get a decent curly cut--it was between my shoulder blades and all one length and just blah. I called and asked for someone who specialized in curly and they gave me her.

LOVE IT!!!

She asked if I was afraid to go shorter and I said no, as long as it looks good and I was looking for a wash and go cut that involved nothing other than putting a little product in. She gave me an angled cut that was about 1-2 in long in the back on my neck and hung a below my chin in the front. Then she actually did a ragged cut throughout the rest of my hair so it was all different layers and when it dried it didn't just get poofy on the bottom but had nice body throughout. First culry cut I've ever gotten that I loved and got lots of compliments on. Oh, and she also cut it dry so she could see exactly where all the hair would wind up when she was done--none of that surprise length at the end when it dries.

I went to oudiad and loved the cut but i really don't think they cut the whole head (still had slit ends).

Went to Evolutions and had the curly cut and was not impressed (hair flat on top).

Re: Any recs on a stylist that specializes in only cutting curly hair?

As far as recs - I have used Kristina @ Salon 1041 in Masspaequa Park - she is good w/ curly hair. Katherine @ Maximus in Westbury gave me a good cut as well (but I don't know if she's still there.........she was going to school for teaching and has 2 kids)
They also both HAVE curly hair so they 'get it'

Now my sister cuts my hair - If you want to trek to the city - she's in the L'Oreal building on Mad (or 5th?) and 47th

Re: Any recs on a stylist that specializes in only cutting curly hair?

I just went with my sister in law to Jen at AK Hair Salon in Oyster Bay. My SIL has very curly hair, and didn't know how to care for it. Jen was AMAZING. She spent 90 minutes talking to her, explaining various methods and products to get different results and walked her through the cut. It came out great. The salon was very chill and relaxed and Jen was super sweet. I think it was around $60/cut with 20% off for a first time customer. Good luck!
