Any tips for getting a manicure to last longer than 2 days?
I swear I have tried it all.
Base coats, no base coat.
Special top coats.
Cheap polish, expensive polish.
NOTHING works.
I did my nails on Sunday evening.
It's now Tuesday morning and they are starting to chip at the edges.
Then they will start to peel off in big pieces- sometimes the whole nail peels off in one big piece!
It makes me not want to do my nails anymore becuase I don't like walking around with peeling polish- to me that looks worse than no polish at all.
Any tips? Any really good base or top coats that help?
I use OPI or Essie Polish.

Do you clean your nails with polish remover before painting? That sometimes helps me.

I have the SAME problem! Nothing works. I don't understand how some girls walk around with the same manicure for almost a week.

I dont get manis anymore b/c of this. I do my own nails at home b/c without fail they chip in 2 days so why waste the $$$. Sometimes I'm tempted to get them wrapped again but I don't want to deal with the maintenance

Yes I have tried that.
I even tried no base coat-so the polish could adhere to my nails better.
that worked for a while but it seems to not work anymore.

I put clear on everyday and my polish lasts at least 5 days and mind you my hands are always in water!

I got my nails done once at this place- with $2 top coat- and if you know me - I normally go to the $15 mani/pedi place
and this was almost a $15 mani
but it lasted so long b/c of this top coat- thru 2 busy bartending shifts with NO chips
I will be in the shopping center Saturday - and I will be buying the top coat- I will let everyone know what it is called
I also touch up my nails and then apply clear at home- this makes my nails last about a week

I chipped on the 2nd day and the tips started to wear right away but it was very small, not too noticable, and the rest of the nail looked great, it stayed very shiny.
However you need to soak the nails in 100% acetone to remove it before re-applying and that destroys your nails after a while and makes them very weak and brittle.
I won't be doing it again.

Shoot there goes that idea. I got excited for a moment ok back to clear nail polish

the salon i go to puts on a quick dry coat.. so it adds a good couple of days extra.. and not that my manicure lasts long because i'm constantly doing dishes, but i usually wear a pink or nude color.. and i just go over it with a clear coat every so often..

OPI AXXIUM (oxium) something like that.
its $25 ($30 for french) its amazing. never chips! last 2+ weeks!!!

I ditch the base coat. The polish adheres to the nail better.

I really think its how it is applied. When I DIY my nail polish lasts for an afternoon. But when i go to my nail place in rvc it lasts a full week always, sometimes week and half. I primarily wear dark or nude OPI colors which I think last longer than light pinks.

yea its a gel manicute, your nails dont really "ruin" they arent the same for a few days after u take it off but i also take 5000mgs of biotin. im strong like bull!
u should take biotin anyway

I've heard this, but personally my nails are stronger! Probably because I'm not constantly f*ing with them anymore.

Thanks Ladies.
I think I am going to bite the bullet and get the gel mani.
Like someone mentioned, I'll just take some biotin or something.
Being a working mom, I dont' have the time to deal with constantly doing my nails- I am lucky to even have time to get them done or do them myself and then they are chipped in 2 days and look like poop.
At least if it lasts for 2 weeks or so, it's worth my time.
