Re: Any VBAC Moms...

Me.

I had to have a c/s because my first was breech. I never went into labor, my water broke, he was still breech and I had a c/s.

When I got PG with #2, I more than wanted a VBAC, but would have been happy with a repeat c/s.

My doctor said I was the perfect candidate for a VBAC because my previous c/s was NOT from a labor and delivery complication, i.e., failure to progress. Chances are if you had a problematic labor the first time, you might again, lessening your chaces to VBAC.

I had to go into labor on my own, I could NOT be induced and my doctor monitored her size closely because my first was 9lbs 7 oz and nearly 3 weeks early!! If I was going past 40 weeks, I would have had to have a c/s, but I went into labor on my own and had her after 6 hours of labor and she was 10 days early.

Any other questions, feel free to FM me.

I think about trying VBAC next time, but I have a bad feeling they'll tell me I'm not a good candidate. oh well, guess I'll have to wait and see. Those of you who had VBAC, was it a better experience??

Trish - I meant to ask you, did you have to prep for the VBAC in any way? Did you read any books or anything before hand? I'm still planning for my VBAC and my OB is very supportive, but I know there are some things that'll be left out of my hands.

Honestly Teri, no, I tried not to read too much into it. I know for myself if I read too much into it, I might have changed my mind, re: the chances for uterine rupture, etc. Which by the way are sooo small, my mathmatical mind didn't really have a concern with this, LOL.

Every appointment, I just talked to my doctor. I really just hoped and prayed that she would flip because she didn't for some time. When she did in my 36th week, and I knew that a VBAC was a real possibilty, I watched what I ate and I took it easy. I had a sono estimate for weight each week, so that my doc could estimate her size. My doc did say that as long as he felt that she wasn't going to be bigger than 8 lbs, I was a go for VBAC IF I went into labor on my own (she was 7-11 when born).

I will say that when I went into labor, my first thought was getting my mom up at 3:30 a.m. to get to the house to watch Andrew. My second thought was getting to Winthrop in time. My third thought was getting my epidural as soon as humanly possible. Chat Icon Never once did I think about anything else but pushing her out, it was rather amazing how your mind works (i.e., no thoughts of c/s, no thoughts of anything negative, etc.).

By far a much better experience. I mean my contractions were mind boggling painful until I got my epi, but everything after that was amazing. The recovery was a million times easier. And I had a really good c/s experience, so to say that the v-birth was even better really says a lot.

Re: Any VBAC Moms...

Thanks Trish - I too don't want to overstudy it and freak myself out....my OB is not a risk-taker at ALL so if she's okay with the VBAC, I can trust I know I am!

I am trying to keep an open mind (which I think is important with any birth "plan" because you never know what can happen) and so if for some reason I have to have another c.s, I will not really be dissapointed. My main reason for wanting a VBAC is for the easier recovery I often hear about.

Re: Any VBAC Moms...

My MW is on board with me haing a VBAC for this one. As long as, like chmlengr, the baby doesn't get too big and I go into labor on my own prior to 40 weeks.

I went into labor the first time and progressed pretty far, but the c/s was a size issue. I would like the easier recovery too, especially if taking care of 2!
