Re: Anybody trying to VBAC or VBA2C?

So.........how did the VBAC go? Were you scared? Was everything ok? I am so nervous about the possibility of rupturing my scar even though I know the chances are slim. I realllllly don't want another C section though. Scary either way.
Obviously it was successful I don't think I ever even gave the entire labor a second thought. Once the contractions started, all I cared about was getting an epidural. Once I got that, it was completely smooth sailing. I didn't feel a thing.

No, I was only allowed to try up until 41 weeks, at which time he would have ordered a repeat c/s before I hit 42 weeks. I was also closely monitored for the baby's size, because he didn't want the baby over 8 lbs. I went into labor at 38.5 weeks, at which point I had to go immediately to the hospital, and she was born after 3 hours at 7 lbs 11 oz. My water didn't break first, I just had contractions. The OB actually broke my water while I was in labor. I was already 7 cm when I got to the hospital 2 hours after the first contraction.
The nurse was a hospital nurse. Actually, the only one that knew I was a vbac was the nurse in the room. But once I delivered and was waiting to be taken to a room, a ton of nurses popped their head in to congratulate me. The nurse who took me in my wheelchair to my room told me I was a mini celeb since a vbac was highly uncommon (remember, this was in 2006). They said my OB was one of the only OBs on staff willing to let their patients even try. I know in the last 6-7 years, a lot more ladies have been able to vbac successfully.
My water broke at 42 weeks exactly last time and I didnt go pass 1cm after 23 hours ( actually I went to 4cm then swelled back to 1cm probably due to infection of random dr.s checking me) Good chance i might just naturally " bake" longer so if I go to 41 weeks and he starts pressuring me to c/s, I plan on telling him to feel free to drop me because unless my uterus or placenta is rupturing nobody is cutting me- Ill walk into the Er while the baby's crowing if i have to I hope he takes my history into consideration and gives me extra time. My gut feeling is this baby will come before 40 weeks with how hyper he is. He also told me to keep the baby under 8lbs, not sure how I can control that. My 2 other kids were 8 and change ( the last one they told me would be 12lbs so i dont trust ultrasounds as far as weight) Luckly I have not gained any weight at almost 30 weeks so I hope that helps him think the baby wont be " too big". I know Dr.B said no kind of induction with vbac ( which i agree with risk wise) Did he sweep your membranes or anything like that?
My biggest fear is him flipping the switch in aggressive mode if I go past 40 weeks. I learned my lesson that nothing works in naturally inducing, the baby comes when it wants to so I just dont want the pressure and stress of somebody pressuring me into forcing the baby out and threats of a c/s.

I had mine nearly 7 years ago but it was the nurse, DH and my OB would come and go to check on me. When I was in the home stretch, the OB was there to deliver. I did nothing to prepare except pray I went into labor on my own and didn't need anyone's help!
Did you go over 40 weeks? Thats what im scared of since my last attempt was at 42 weeks. Was it the nurse from the Dr.s office or the hospitals? Was the hospital staff supportive of your VBAC? Im hoping I can labor at home as long as possible . Last time I was told to go straight to the hospital when my waterbroke ( because i had alot of fluid and said it was risky) and i wasnt more then 1cm. Im hoping to go in and be at least 3 cm or more.
My OB won't let me go past 40 weeks. If I don't go into labor on my own then they will do the C section. They also said they want me in the hospital as soon as my water breaks so I can be closely monitored. Every OB is probably different but that's what they told me with regards to trying for a VBAC.
Not trying to stir up anything but unless there is a specific medical concern your OB has for *you* personally, I wouldn't say your OB is VBAC friendly just because of what you wrote. There's no reason not to wait past 40 weeks unless you have some complications or something. When I switched OB's this time, I didn't go by what the OB's office said, I went by OTHERS who TOLD me they have a VBAC at such and such office. Some offices say the are VBAC friendly but really aren't...just something to think about (obviously I'm just a poster on the internet but feel free to FM me).
ICAN I found INCREDIBLY helpful because you hear firsthand from people who had VBACs, preparing for VBACs, about certain offices and what they do etc.
I understand what you are saying but for me, I have gestational diabetes so VBAC or not, they won't let me go past 40 weeks (it was the same when I had my DD). With GD they are concerned about the baby's size, even when your sugars are being controlled. I should've mentioned that.

I am going for a VBac. I am really excited. Of course there are some nerves, but they are less then going in for another c-section.
Good luck to all you ladies!

Anybody trying to VBAC or VBA2C?
I was planning on a vbac with #2 but he was transverse (sideways-as was #1 and the reason for c/s)
I was planning on vba2c with #3 and, surprise- she was also transverse. My dr thinks my pelvis is too small, therefore my babies won't turn and drop.

Tell me everything!!!!
I really want a VBAC just so nervous because of the possibility of a uterine rupture...........even though its been 4.5 yrs since my C section. What can I expect that day? Did you go full term or earlier? Did your water break? How bad was labor? Any help is appreciated!!!

Re: Anybody trying to VBAC or VBA2C?
Read my birth story on the other board, and that'll tell you what I thought of contractions lol. DD2 was born at 38w3d. My water broke but contractions didn't start for awhile... but when they did they were fast and furious. BUT my baby was born in 7 hours! I pushed for under an hour!
The risk of uterine rupture is actually way less than the 1% chance that's usually cited. Women that never had a section can rupture also. That risk is very slight, but admittedly there. There are a lot of risks of a repeat c-sectionas well, for mom and baby, and I thought the VBAC was the lesser of the two. Do some research, but start with the ACOG's report on VBAC.
Recovery was way easier this time around. Breastfeeding has been super simple. I felt better emotionally and physically, which was handy considering I had a toddler and a newborn to care for. Overall I think it was a fantastic experience and would recommend that all candidates try.
That said, do your research on your doctor. Some say they're VBAC-friendly but aren't... or they genuinely are but the hospital policy is not.

Re: Anybody trying to VBAC or VBA2C?
I had a VBAC with #2 and plan on another vaginal birth this time.
I used the same doctor both times. He was very supportive of the VBAC- never even set a date for the C-Section (I saw him at 39 weeks went into labor a few days later)- until I got to L&D. All of the sudden his tune changed and he was kind of pushing for me to just get a C.
I was adamant about NOT doing another Csection and I'm so glad.

Anybody trying to VBAC or VBA2C?
Crashing -- this thread is so inspiring. Im hoping for a VBAC the next time around (not preggers yet) -- wondering if you would mind posting/FM me with which Dr.'s or midwives and hospital you've used for VBAC. Ideally looking for those who are in Nassau/NYC or even Queens.
I labored and pushed for a total of 18hours the first time and my OB insisted on a C b/c my pelvis was too small. Im just not comfortable w/ that explanation given the width of my hips, my genes but Im not a doctor so I have a lot of research to do on this.
TIA!
