Anyone adopt an older child?
I was wondering if their was someone I could speak with regarding their experiences...DH and I are discussing adoption. And while I would love an infant, it may not be the most feasible and I've been looking at NYS adoption and I think a child of about 3-5 would be wonderful.
THanks for anyone's input.

Our son was 19 months when he came home. I would ablsolutely adopt a toddler again.

If I didnt have a child already, I would consider an older child, but after 3 you have to be prepared that a big part of their personality is already developed.

We don't have children, we have IF issues and I'm going through an IVF right now, I don't know how much more I can do. 3-5 is not a problem for me and I don't mind that personality is developing. DH was a social work in child psych for 10 years before coming a cop, so he's got some experience.

sounds like this is an awesome thing for you
by the way, I know it didnt come out right so just to clarify, I would adopt an older child, we chose not too, because we felt it would be too hard for our son to adapt to having someone else come in at that age. If I didnt have to worry about how it would effect him, we would in a heartbeat.
Good luck to you

Re: Anyone adopt an older child?
My parents adopted one of my sisters when she was 2 from Romania. She is now 10 and she is a lovely addition to our family. I think it is such a great thing to adopt a child that is a little older. I am an attorney practicing family law, and I have so many clients that age in DSS care and I know in Suffolk county, the judges are starting to crack down on DSS and pushing them to terminate parental rights in a more timely fashion, so there are a lot of children in that age range that need loving homes!
