question about older children playing with your child/daycare related
My dd is 18 months and at at her daycare is this kid who is always getting into trouble. Hes about 3.5/4. Anyhow, the last few days Ive seen him randomly push my dd who is WAY smaller then him. Also last month he chucked a megablock at her head. Today when I picked dd up the sitters dd (3) told me he knocked Gillian down. The sitter said she never saw this and like Ive said before Ive randomly seen this myself so I have to assume its true. How do you adress this and how can the problem be solved anyhow? TIA

I think the problem can be solved by the boy getting a "time out". He technically should know better. If the sitter never saw it, I would be inclined to think she isn't paying very good attention if the daughter noticed it. I hate to say it since I know you've switched her around a bit, but I would put her somewhere with kids her own age.

Intervention is needed and the sitter needs to be on top of this. Time-outs are a good consequence, but he also needs a reward for being nice to her. You may want to buy stickers and ask the sittter to watch and catch him being nice. In this way he will learn to like her and feel good about being nice to her until stickers can be phased oput. If stickers don't work than maybe a fav to that can ONLY be played with when he is nice. All other times it must be away

Is this a smaller daycare? I am asking because I wonder why they are even in the same room together.....
I would definitely spaek to the director and see to it that he is porperly reprimanded/whatever they do to kids who act up.........that is not appropriate behavior to allow to continue.....

This is what I was wondering too. Technically the boy should not be in the same room with your DD at that age. I don't know if this is a daycare or just a babysitter. If it is a licensed day care, your provider is "breaking the law/regulations" so to speak.
If it's a babysitter just doing it in her home and she doesn't see things like that happening, maybe she needs to hire some kind of assistant or something.

Family daycares aren't required to separate by age, so the provider is not doing anything illegal.

Re: question about older children playing with your child/daycare related
Its family daycare and yes they can be in the same room. BUT thats not my concern.. . I actually prefer it this way bc I think Gilly learns alot from the older kids. She has been doing wonderfully developmentally. So, I did talk to the main person today who states that she has concerns with this child hitting or knocking over her own dd. Pretty much I made it clear that I am NOT okay with this, I want dd seperated from him in general (not out of the room) but them to not have alot of playing contact. Meaning she needs to watch dd CONSTANTLY as long as this child is in the room with dd. I explained that he is 2xs her weight and 2xs her height. I did say that if anything else happens I will be talking to the parents. I also stated that it is her responsibility in the future if anything further were to happen. I am glad I talked to her bc at least if she had some concern herself, I validated the problem and hopefully it will not continue.
