One last post about breastfeeding (weaning an older child...question for friend!)
My friend needs help!!!
She needs to wean her 18 month old. She is going through infertility, and will start injections soon to TTC #2. Her DD needs to be weaned ASAP however she just can't bear to do it but needs to, as well as saying all the time "I need my boobs back!!".
Any advice for her?? She emailed my moms group today about it...but she will not leave her DD for a whole weekend like others have suggested and she can't seem to just stop cold turkey...
TIA!!

Tell her to check out Kellymom.com, they might have some good advice.

I don't think Josh will ever self wean, just a feeling that I have.
I intend to BF till he's 2, but at 14 months, I am laying the groundwork.(beachgirl scares me with her posts )
I did the nightweaning, now I never feed him between 10-5.
She can start by taking away day feedings...the morning and night are the hardest.
During the day, she can't sit anywhere that reminds her child of nursing. IF Josh even sees me walking towards our nursing chair, he will start asking for it.
Boredom makes them want to nurse. Sitting on her lap will make her want to nurse.
If they leave the house in the AM and stay busy...that would be ideal. Mine never asks now to be nursed while we are out and about, only at home.

She should start supplementing with a Next Stage Formula. We use the Enfamil Lipil one. Have her start replacing a feeding or two with formula, and then just gradually wean like that.

It's not easy as they get older. My 21 month old is just starting to self wean. The only thing that I can say is too distract her when she asks for it. An old wives tale is to put aloe or vinegar on your nipples. It is supposed to taste horrible.

Thanks everyone..I'm emailing her the suggestions now!
(the formula thing though would not work..she hasn't ever had formula or drank from a bottle actually...she can totally drink from a sippy and eats solids, its just a matter of comfort nursing right now according to the mom..)
