Anyone attempting to/attempted to travel with infant twins??
My MIL wants us to go down to Florida to their summer house with the kids. I am all in for a vacation with babysitters available, but am petrified about how to travel with two. My MIL said she can rent a pak n play for both of them down there...but how do i bring both car seats with us?? Isn't that going to be a PIA? Also, do you fly with them on your laps??
Anyone who has traveled with their twins and can offer advice i love to hear it!

Re: Anyone attempting to/attempted to travel with infant twins??
We traveled with the boys to florida last April. They were over a year at the time, but I was nervous too! You don't have to bring the car seats if you don't want to...you can hold the babies on the plane. We bought umbrella strollers and they come right onto the plane with you. They store them up front. When you get to your destination, you can rent car seats for the car, and you have the strollers for your adventures. Having the extra hands will def. help... I think you could pull it off...and it would be so nice to get away, and get out with DH at night!! Good luck! Let me know if you decide to go, I can help with tips for the plane!

Re: Anyone attempting to/attempted to travel with infant twins??
My IL's are planning on taking the entire extended family to Hawaii to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in Summer of 2008.
My twins will be about 16 months at the time so I'm interested in any and all advice on this matter.
Oh, and they don't want to stop off in CA for more than just a few hour layover

Re: Anyone attempting to/attempted to travel with infant twins??
We traveled by car to NC,when the boys were 9 months old and my SIL borrowed 2 pack and plays.
When we flew to FL when they were 14 months old we did not buy them seats, but we were able to bring thier car seats on since it was not full. I kept watching the flight to see i it was booked or not, since I didn't want to have to buy a seat and not need it. Also if you fly southwest if you do not need the infant seat becuase they are not booked you can get your money abck, but you have to mail it to them.
We stayed at my mother's house so she borrowed 2 pack and plays for the boys to sleep in and bought booster seats which she later returned after we left (She cleaned them very well after we left)
I forgot to add, when we had to baord the plane it was a bit tought to get everything on, 2 kids, the stroller and 2 car seats and we had my mom with us, but I could only hold one child becuase I had just ahd surgery, but someone on line helped DH carry the seats, or the FA would have helped. It was not that big of a deal though. Once in thier seats the boys slept 90% of the flight, since we flew during thier normal nap time.

Re: Anyone attempting to/attempted to travel with infant twins??
I think you should do it. You can rent carseats if you need them. I am going to Florida this year for my mom's 50 B-day and I think it will be fine.
I am not sure what great advice this is, but my friend said her pediatrician said to give her daughter Benadryl on the plane (so she sleeps ) Has anyone ever heard of this?
Theresa, we are planning to go back to Hawaii for our 5 anniversary in the summer of 08 too! Maybe I will see you there. We will probably fly direct with the girls. Something to look into.

We aren't attempting any flying trips yet. We are doing a few driving trips throught the year. Next year we are taking a plane trip. I just don't want to lug everything around yet.

Not a twin mommy, but if you haven't given them Benadryl before I wouldn't use it the first time on a plane. What if they had an allergic reaction and you were in the air? But I'm a nervous nelly about medication.

We will be flying with the girls in a few weeks to Arizona, but MIL is coming with us to help. I still have no idea how we are going to do this! Still not sure how I'm going to bring their meals and formula on, or if we are going to bring their car seats (I'd rather not)! I'll let you know how it goes.

Re: Anyone attempting to/attempted to travel with infant twins??
I dont have twins but I was at the airport this week and I saw a family with twins. They took umbrella strollers and somehow hooked up their carseat to the back of the stroller while pushing them. They didnt seem to be struggling at all. I thought it was so clever.
ETA: You can either travel with them on your laps or if you bought two tickets for your children, you can place them in the carseats. Otherwise, right before you get on the plane, you will check in both umbrella and carseats and they will return to you once you deplane.

Re: Anyone attempting to/attempted to travel with infant twins??
WE have talked about flying to Florida after the babies are born and said if we had to we woud buy just one seat and rotate them by who was sleeping. I have a almost 3 year old and I would let her just sit in the seat or get her a smaller booster .
We my just wind up driving so we can see all out friends on the way down ...

You can bring wbottled water bought in the airport and powdered formula. I *think* you can bring baby food too...have fun. I went to college in AZ. If you go to Tempe eat at Cafe Boa(mushroom ravioli soooo good!)

Re: Anyone attempting to/attempted to travel with infant twins??
We took the girls to Ireland last May they were 7 months. ~ If they are in the boosters you can take them on the plane. They fit in the overhead compartment.
~If they are in regular carseats you put them in with your luggage.
~Yes they sat on our laps. (If you buy them seats you can take the carseats on board & put them in that)
~The stroller goes with you up to the plane. And they take them at the door & store them below. When you arrive at your destination you wait & they bring them up first.
