Anyone call Edgepark lately? -Update 2/2 and Question
So I confirmed today that my insurance will cover a breast pump (only 80% but thats okay!) So I called edgepark today to get teh ball rolling thinking great I will have it and figure out how to use it prior to the babys arrival.
Anyway the cs person told me they could do all the leg work now but they wont ship it out until AFTER the baby is here. So I would have to call and tell them the baby was born and THEN they would ship it.
Has anyone else encountered this recently? Not sure if its a new policy or what...
Just curious.
I called a local supplier and they didnt mention that anything about the baby being born first, just that I had to get a script from my OB so I may just do that instead so I can get it in advance...we will see
UPDATE: So I called back and the new cs person I got didnt mention anything about not sending it out until the baby was born. She took all my info and told me that if it was covered 100% if would come in hte mail UPS, if only a portion was covered they would contact me to collect payment. Wonder what the lady was talking about the first time I called! Thanks everyone!
UPDATE 2/2/11: So I received my pump today! YEAH! I am so glad I called back as obviously that first Cs person didnt have a clue.
NOw for the question...did you have a bunch of forms included in yours to be signed and sent back? I see the privacy notice and a few other forms.

Re: Anyone call Edgepark lately?
Someone else mentioned this other day. I think that the consensus was that you can't get it until the baby is born. That poster was mad because their doctor wouldn't write the script until the baby was born and a few others said that was standard practice.

Re: Anyone call Edgepark lately?
That is werid. I got mine, it was fully covered. I figured it would wait until closer to my due date and the next thing I knew it was at my door. Was very surprised.

Re: Anyone call Edgepark lately?
Oh yeah I remember that post.
My insurance will cover it with no medical necessity so I was confused. but I just figured I would see if anyone else had that same issue.
I have to check with my OB to see if they will write a script for it prior to having the baby but we will see!
Thanks!

When did you get it? I just called today. I know alot of women got it say last year so I figured maybe for 2011 they had a policy change.

Re: Anyone call Edgepark lately?
If your insurance covers it without medical necessity you should be able to get it before the baby I think. There may be another stipulation, but my friends that had it covered without needing a script got it as early as 15 weeks. I'd call your insurance again and ask if there is a reason why it would have to be after the baby or ask them for another supplier, but yay on getting it covered 80%!

This has nothing to do with my insurance. I never even gave edgepark my insurance.
After I told her why I was calling the EP cs woman asked me if the baby was here yet, I said no and she told me that they couldnt ship until after the baby was born. So I said I could call back closer to my due date.
ETA: I called a local supplier and I have to get a script from my OB so I am going to talk to her at my next appt.

I did not need a script either, they just asked my dr name and number. I am only 15 weeks now. I had no idea it would ship already. I would call them and ask why it would need to wait, unless that has to do with your insurance.

The script was for a local supplier not edge park. Edge park didnt have any of my insurance info when she told me the info about the baby needing to be here by now. So I am sure it has nothing to do with my insurance.
ETA: I am due 4/25 but will deliver earlier via schedule c/s

Oh that's so strange maybe call again and someone different will send it out before?

Re: Anyone call Edgepark lately?
I received mine last week and I am not due until 5/17. In fact I was surprised I received mine because I thought Edgepark was going to call me in advance of shipping, but it arrived on my doorstep days after I called. It probably depends on your insurance and your doctor.

Yeah, see this I would understand. But due to the fact we never even got that far on the phone it cant be that. This was pretty much our converstaion:
Me: I would like to get a breast pump from you
CS: okay will you be purchasing it privately or through insurance
Me: through my insurance
CS: Is the baby here yet?
Me: No not yet
CS: Okay well jsut so you know, we cannot send out breast pumps until after the baby is here. So you can give me all your information and we can get the ball rolling and then whne the baby is here just call back and we can send out the pump.
Me: Oh really?
CS: Yes. Do you want to do that now?
Me: You know, i think if thats the case I will just call back closer to my due date. Thanks.
My insurance said it would cover it and it had NOTHING to do with medical necessity, they said it was always covered as medical equipment. And I never even gave the CS person my Dr information, so it can't be that holding it up either.
I will call back later and see if I get a different response.
Thanks all!

Re: Anyone call Edgepark lately?
I know I'm way ahead of the game (due in August) but I figured I'd try and call now too and I had no problems - I spoke with a lady Debbie, she set up my account and was able to locate my Dr. and will start processing my order. If I owe a co-pay they'll be in touch by phone or e-mail but in the meantime as of tomorrow my account will be active online and I can check the status of the order. I'll get an e-mail when the pump ships
She even asked if it was ok it if they ship from their Ohio warehouse since the NY warehouse doens't have any Medela Freestyles in stock....sure no problem
Definitely try again -- maybe you got a grumpy salesperson.
