Anyone Care to Discuss A Thousand Splendid Suns?
Just finished it yesterday - that book completely took my breath away. Liked it so much better than The Kite Runner.

I loved them both. I think they are two of the best books I have ever read. A thousand splendid suns was more relateable to me as a woman, because even though it took place in afghanistan, there are things that could easily happen to any woman.

Re: Anyone Care to Discuss A Thousand Splendid Suns?
I thought this book was fabulous! I know it was fiction but for me I felt like I could easily have been reading a true story. I really enjoy the bond that Mariam and Laila formed. The whole book just took my breath away. I'd love to discuss it more, any good questions to get the discussion going?

That's exactly how I felt. I felt like my heart was in my throat for half of the book. Was anyone else crying when Mariam refused to go to Pakistan and stayed to accept her fate?

Yes. I kind of knew that was coming but still to know that she started out bitter at Laila and they developed such a bond. I felt like Mariam took the place of her mom.
I was shocked when Laila's "boyfriend" (ack can't remember his name) was actually alive. I didn't see that coming.

I know!! OMG - and what about when her parents died - the imagery - talking about how a chunk of something burning landed near her - with the pic of the Golden Gate bridge on it
I wanted them to stay in Pakistan and not come back to Afghanistan

Re: Anyone Care to Discuss A Thousand Splendid Suns?
I just finished this book. It was an amazing book that broke my heart... I know the story was fiction but those events are real in that part of the world. Women are treated like animals and I found my blood boiling during certain parts of the book. I didn't read Kite Runner yet- That is on my list....
