Anyone carry a baby 20lbs and up in a sling..
...or infant carrier and if so what one and for how long - ie. what weight did you go up to?
We have the baby bjorn but DS is already 20lbs at 6mths and I think it only goes to 25lbs. Just wondering if its worth getting a different brand one at this stage?
TIA

I carried Ava on my hip in a sling for the LONGEST time and she was well over 20lbs. Probably up to 30lbs. It was just a lifesaver for quick trips into the store or when she wanted to be carried. I think I have a hotsling. Whatever it is, it's just one big loop of fabric and is awesome.

I don't think those types go higher than 25 Lbs or about. After that, it's the "serious hiking gear" type.

I'd look into getting an Ergo, Becko or Angel pack carrier... They are awesome and carry 30+ lbs
Here is a great site to get info on carriers

The Ergo goes up to 40 lbs, I have one of these and I use it when I have to go grocery shopping - one kid in the cart, the other goes on my back in the carrier.

Re: Anyone carry a baby 20lbs and up in a sling..
Thanks everyone.
I am confused about the ergo - it says on the site that you cannot wear the baby facing out? is this true?
Also I have a peanut shell that never worked when DS was smaller - he hated it but it looks like it might work for him if I were to carry him on my hip but that says for 9mths upwards - do you think I could use this hold now seen as he is so sturdy?
TIA

Yes, this is true. If you wear the baby on the front, baby faces you, not out. You can also wear the baby on your hip or on your back. In all the positions, the baby faces you.

dd is probably about 20lbs right now and i carry her all the time. i have (among many others) a mei tai and love it. she doesn't feel heavy at all in it. meanwhile, my pouch sling makes her feel like she's made of lead!

If you get the Ergo with the infant insert, there is a newer, redesigned infant insert available. buybuyBaby still sells the old one. Make sure you get the new one. Way better!

Re: Anyone carry a baby 20lbs and up in a sling..
Thanks ....Q. about the back packing? isnt it a pain to put on and get DC adjusted? Also I feel like I would be scared to have him on my back at this stage as I wouldn't be able to see him etc . I wish I could wear him facing out but strapped to my front.
I had him in the baby bjorn for about 20 mins yesterday and it hurt!
