Anyone do Oil Rubbed Bronze fixtures in a kitchen
I'm in the middle of a big renovation and, frankly, my head hurts a bit. I am redoing my kitchen (inlcuidng taking an atrium out); making a media room and an office for myself on the first floor.
I though I had it all figured out, but find I'm stressing over smallish details. My cabinets are a cream with a mocha glaze, I've picked Quartz which is darker than the cabinets and there is wood on the floor.
I went to look at fixtures and backsplashes yesterday. I thought I'd go with nickel as the appliances are stainless steel (BTW thanks to whomever recommended Plesser's) but find I'm drawn to the oil rubbed bronze. The guy in the showroom tells me this is becoming more popular, but frankly I just like the look. The rub, so to speak, is how does this look with a stainless steel sink? The showroom guy looked at me like it was a non-issue, but in my mind I don't see it looking great. Just curious, has anyone done this or seen this?
My other alternative is to maybe do a farm sink, which really was not the direction I was moving in. Decisions, decisions....

These were the exact words of my plumber "Do not under any circumstance get oil rubbed bronze it always looks dirty after you use it".
He than told me if I get oil rubbed bronze he won't come back to out to reinstall anything else after I call him crying how much I hate it.
When I was at blackmans picking out fixtures the sales woman told me the same thing people always complain they look dirty after a few weeks. I went with stainless.

Very Interesting. I never even considered that. Thanks for the insight.

The finish fades. We have ORB in our master bath... I wouldn't recommend it for a kitchen.

Your kitchen sounds really nice. What brand cabinets are they? I would love to see a pic or look them up.

I have it my bathroom. The sink I think will look odd though. I have a cream sink in my bathroom. I would look on pinterest and see if you can find any pics of that combo.

Re: Anyone do Oil Rubbed Bronze fixtures in a kitchen
My ILs had ORB in their last kitchen and it looked great and worked completely fine. They had dark quartz countertops and stainless sink. You don't need to match metals like ORB faucet and stainless sink.
Now, they just did a renovation to their current house. They did granite with a lot of dark mottled veins (Alaskan white) and rustic cherry cabinets and choose a stainless faucet. After it was in, she hated it and changed it to ORB.
I hear you on thinking you have it figured out. I recently chose my kitchen and then changed 75% of it.

Re: Anyone do Oil Rubbed Bronze fixtures in a kitchen
We did ORB in my kitchen and I love today just as much as I did 2 years ago when we renovated. I went with antiqued cream cabinets and I really liked the way the ORB looked with them. I don't regret my decision at all.
There are some pics in my album if you would like to see

Very nice. What do you do in terms of a sink?

Thanks. We went with a dark brown ceramic sink because I was afraid that the stainless steel would clash

Re: Anyone do Oil Rubbed Bronze fixtures in a kitchen
I have ORB in my kitchen. It's been a little more than a year, I still love my faucet and cabinet hardware. I have a white ceramic sink which needs more scrubbing than my old stainless but I like the look so much more. Ours was a total DIY job and my only real regret was my countertop choice, but it was cheap so we can swap it out in a few years.

No complaints at all. Except for DH putting a paint brush with white paint in there to "soak" which ended up leaving a little stain. But besides that, I love it. We got it from home depot and it was really reasonable

Re: Anyone do Oil Rubbed Bronze fixtures in a kitchen
I had the same predicament. Our kitchen is white shaker cabinets, ORB drawer pulls, stainless appliances, greyish granite. Our plumber dissuaded us from ORB sink. I wanted a farmhouse sink, but we ultimately went with a stainless sink with ORB faucet and it looks great.

I love the ORB. recently did those fixtures in our renovated bathroom (pics in album). Haven't had a problem with them but they are fairly new.
As far as a sink goes, when I redid my kitchen a few years ago I didn't want a SS sink so did what I think was called quartz sink. I comes in colors and is pretty much impossible to scratch or chip

Re: Anyone do Oil Rubbed Bronze fixtures in a kitchen
I have ORB all over my house. Doorknobs and the bathroom we did finish. I plan on using it in the kitchen when we finish that.
3+ years and all the hardware looks great. Yes, ORB will fade and change over time, but to me, that's why I got it. I like that look

Re: Anyone do Oil Rubbed Bronze fixtures in a kitchen
I had ORB in my last house, 7+ years and the finish didn't fade, wear or look dirty. I bought Price Pfister. I had a hand hammered copper farm sink, which was AWESOME.
