Yay for us! Congrats on taking the step.

I had my first weigh in on Friday and lost 5.8! Whew, I was terrified I was going to lose nothing. My weigh in days are Fridays, so I have all my meals planned for the week.

Have you ladies done WW previously? ';m thinking about joining again, but wondered how the new program compares to past points programs. Do you find it harder, easier, etc...?

I have done weight watchers before. When I was in previously, it was just points. NOT point points plus or smart points. That worked really well for me. So well, in fact, that I lost 125 lbs. But, I got very ill (since diagnosed with Lupus and Fibro, with an existing thyroid problem), stopped going, was put on steroids for a year, so I gained most back.

Smart points is different, but since I'm starting new I'm looking at it as a fresh approach. A new start.

I think I've done 3 versions of points at this point and all worked. Just wondering how different this new version is and if people are liking it. Thanks for answering! I'm struggling with 10 pounds and while it may not be a lot to some, I lost 45 lbs with WW about 15 years ago so I just really need to get this in check again.

So far I really like it. The biggest difference to me is that fruits and vegetables are all 0. They used to have a points value and you had to count them. There is more emphasis on increasing your fruits and veggie intake.

Re: Anyone doing Weight Watchers?

I just joined a month ago and I'm down 4 lbs. Slower than I'd like but weekends are hard. It's progress at least.

To answer the question about old points vs new points, I've heard and maybe even experienced it myself, that it was easier to cheat on the old points. It seems points are generally higher all around, especially cakes, cookies, carbs, you know, all the good stuff. It's forcing me to eat super clean. When I go off, I pay. In the past cookies weren't AS bad so I'd have 3-4 instead of 1-2 which is what I do now.

yes.

Im a lifetime member.

I feel like this system now like others stated def make your more conscious of the fruits and veggies that I wouldn't normally eat daily and I do now.
Carbs are higher points and sugars.

The first week, its tough, its a learning process but once you get past that, it comes together. lots of preparing! that is key and helps.
Sun nights I just make my food for week and prep. the right food is always around so that helps!

Anyone doing Weight Watchers?

Been doing this through work (we meet on Thursdays at the end of the day in our cafeteria) for 10 weeks. I've lost 16 lbs so far. We are signing up for another 12 weeks when this 12 are over. I am finding the accountability is helping me stay on track. Plus it helps work is paying do half.

Re: Anyone doing Weight Watchers?

I just joined. I did it 4 years after my twins were born and I was successful. Then I got pregnant with my 3rd and my weight really spiraled out of control.

I only do the online plan. I thought I could just do MFP but I think WW is more structured. Today is day 1 and I am having a hard time.Chat Icon I snack so much. I am so hungry! The points system has changed from when I was on it last, but I remember in the beginning last time starving by 7pm and going to bed with my stomach growling (for the first week anyway).

Any tips?

Re: Anyone doing Weight Watchers?

I'm on week 6 or 7 and only down 4 lbs so I don't know if I'm the one that should be giving tips but I've been snacking mostly on fruits. Lots of fruits. But be careful. After not loosing two weeks in a row the leader said I might be overdoing it on the 0 point fruits and that's contributing to not loosing.

I've also found I like popcorn a lot. It is a few points but I like the bulk of it.

I recently started snacking on shrimp cocktail. I know it can get pricey but it is tasty and only 4 points for about 6-7 shrimp and a tiny bit of cocktail sauce. I find that protein keeps me satisfied longer than carbs.

On that note, I've been buying the Stop and Shop lemon chicken cutlets that are 2 points each by the cart full. My dinner most nights with fresh veg and a potato.

One last tip: I copied down this recipe from a meeting and I've made a few times. It's pretty good and can curb a sweet craving for only 1 point.

Muffins (1 point):
1 WW Smoothie packet
1 cup egg whites
1/2 cup oats
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking powder
12 mins at 400 degrees
makes 6

I find egg beaters works better. Does it change the point value? I don't know?

I'm still learning too. Would love any tips from other members.

Re: Anyone doing Weight Watchers?

DH & I are doing it together and have been doing well on it! Granted, we also added the gym into our lives and have been going 4-5 times per week. DH is down 34 and I'm down 21 pounds. We've been going for for a little over two months (started on v-day, how romantic! LOL). If anyone has any questions, feel free to pm me or post here. :)

Thanks for the tips! so helpful. For the lemon chicken cutlets, are these pre-cooked or are they in the meat section? Have to look into this.

Also, where can I find some of the WW products (want to try that recipe-yum)? I haven't looked recently and I remember years ago having trouble finding them in Waldbaum's.

Re: Anyone doing Weight Watchers?

This is the only image online that I could find of the chicken I was talking about:

Chicken

It is precooked and delicious. 2 cutlets for $5.99 and only 2 points each. I think it's totally worth it. I've had them cold over lettuce as a salad and used the sauce as dressing or I heat them as an entree. Use the oven or toaster to heat. In the microwave they get chewy.

I find these in the North Bellmore Stop and Shop just right of the deli counter with other prepared, packaged foods.

The only place I've known to buy the real WW products is in a WW center. You can go in and buy things without staying for a meeting. I've gotten other things at S&S and realized they were figured on the old points system. I thought these brownies were 2 points but were now 4 on the smart points system. I let my son eat them. :)

Re: Anyone doing Weight Watchers?

Shoprite in Commack (by Costco and Target) has lots of weight watchers products, including a end-cap with all kinds of breads/desserts, ww cheese options, and a LOT of ww ice cream. With that said, I always take my phone and scan around because sometimes, you can find same point value items with different brands. For example, I love the string cheese. WW has a colby-jack one for 2 sp. I was scanning and trader joe's and found one for 1 sp.

I'd say the best thing DH & I have been doing is morning shakes for breakfast. We always buy a bunch of different kinds of frozen fruit (no sugar added!) along with unsweetened vanilla almond milk and a package of spinach and oatmeal (the quick kind). Below is my usual recipe. It comes out to about 5/6 points for the shake and then I have a black coffee with fat-free milk and 1 sugar for one point total.
------------------------------------------------------------
1/2 cup quick oats recipe (4sp)
1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk (1sp)
1/2 cup frozen mango chunks (0sp)
1 medium banana (or 1/2 sometimes) (0sp)
1/2 cup spinach (0sp)

*I don't typically add ice because I always use some kind of frozen fruit but you can if you choose to use all fresh ones. We buy frozen strawberries, blueberries, fruit medley, pineapple, etc. You can really play around with it and it adds a little variety! LOL*
-----------------------------------------------------------------

If I get hungry, I'll eat a banana or another kind of fruit but typically, the oats in the shake will hold me over until I have a yogurt (around 11am). ALSO! Dannon greek yogurts are amazinggggg. They taste so good and they run 2-3 points each. Our favorite is the strawberry cheesecake one. SO SO good. They also have salted caramel, boston cream pie, keylime pie. They're delicious. Here's how they look. I've found them at shoprite. http://www.lightandfit.com/assets/img/product-images/large/light-and-fit-greek-strawberry_cheesecake.png

Lastly, DH and I really love scotch eggs. A girlfriend at work began making them and I stole her recipe lol. You hard-boil 5-6 eggs and peel them. Buy 1lb of your meat of choice (I used ground turkey). Don't cook it! Add seasoning/veggies (for example, sometimes, I'll make "mexican" style ones with all different kinds of peppers and a little low-sodium seasoning mixed in.. you can really add anything you're into). Mix it with some whole wheat breadcrumbs (I think about 1/4 cup?). Some people add an egg, I don't think I ever do but you might need to, depending on the meat you choose. Then, divide your meat into 5/6 small patties and wrap it around each egg. Bake at 375 for 20-25 minutes. Easy thing to take for lunch. Usually I slice it throw it over a salad. It looks really pretty with the egg in the middle. DH has eaten it as breakfast. Protein filled!

ETA: Scotch egg tends to also be about 5/6 points per serving.

Here's a few things I'm loving:

pB2 with chocolate. Mix in nonfat plain Greek yogurt with a banana. Yum! Mix with a little water and have on toast/flatbread with berries or banana

Zoodles. Make a simple sauce with crushed tomatoes, spices and no oil and it's no points. Add parm cheese for only one point.

Spray olive oil. I spray nonstick pans very lightly and can cook most things with almost no oil.

Almond milk, unsweetened vanilla

I am down 12 lbs as of my weigh in Friday (joined only three weeks ago)! I got my 5% charm and I'm so excited. Things helping me:

Egg whites - making these for breakfast or lunch often. Only 1sp for a cup.

Pocket thins bread - great for sandwiches and filling, 3sp

Shrimp and fish - we're eating this once a week at least, very low in pts

Tons of fresh veggies, and bananas. Love the PB2 with chocolate on a banana!

The sodium in this chicken is very high. Sodium definitely stalls weight loss.
I like to grill up a weeks worth of chicken on Sundays and use them the same way. Its much healthier and doesn't take much time at all.

Thanks! I'm sure it will not stay at this pace, but as long as I'm headed in the right direction (down) I am okay with that.
