Anyone elsde have a hard time eating out?
I feel like I am over cautious and can't enjoy a meal anymore with worrying about if there alcohol in it, is it cook thoroughly, is there a cheese I can't eat, does it have proscutto or bacon, is that too much fish, etc.
Even when I try to think, one time won't do harm, I still feel guilty anyway.
It was our anniversary yesterday and I was almost in complete tears because I just want to have a nice meal (not some regular dish I can make) and not feel guilty. In the end I went with a very good dish and the dinner was very nice, but I still worry if what I choose is safe.
I even felt guilty that the chocolate cake from our wedding cake top was safe to eat or too rich in chocolate
Anyone else get like this????

No. You are being way too over cautious. VERY few things are THAT terrible that you can NEVER have them.
Everything in moderation. As long as you aren't drinking a lot or doing drugs, you really will be fine.

fyi - you can eat things that are coooked with alcohol (like penne ala vodka)...the alcohol is burned off in the cooking process.

I guess as the pregnancy progresses & come the next one I can be more relaxed. But between the scare in the beginning, I feel like I can't be too cautious. I just want a healthy baby.

I understand what you mean. I was like this during my first trimester. As my pregnancy progressed I learned to relax, and to practice moderation like the other ladies said. Don't worry you will begin to relax more as your pregnancy progresses.
Happy Anniversary!!

Are you serious? that's crazy! My doctor told me that it's okay to have a glass of wine every once in a while! Any alcohol used to cook is burned off like Octoberbride stated....... I think you can relax a little bit and enjoy yourself or you are going to drive yourself crazy!

Trust me I was surprised, and it was said by a DR many here go to.
GrouchyLadyBug posted this once. Maybe this is why the dr said it? Preparation Method Percent of Alcohol Retained
alcohol added to boiling liquid & removed from heat 85%
alcohol flamed 75%
no heat, stored overnight 70%
baked, 25 minutes, alcohol not stirred into mixture 45%
baked/simmered, alcohol stirred into mixture: 15 minutes 40% 30 minutes 35% 1 hou 25% 1.5 hours 20% 2 hours 10% 2.5 hours 5%

No I know. I am really not stressing as much as it sounds. But I wonder if others are cautious or more relaxed?
I know everyone has their own views on how they will handle their pregnancy. And I don't judge for what's right for them.

Re: Anyone elsde have a hard time eating out?
I admit I am pretty relaxed about what I eat, and so is my Dr. I eat what I want and try not to think too much about the contents. I am cautious about fish and cheeses and I heat up cold cuts if I want a sandwich but other than that, I believe we tend to over educate ourselves (not just in pregnancy) and wind up too stressed, which is probably worse for the baby than our food content.
Enjoy your pregnancy!!

Re: Anyone elsde have a hard time eating out?
I am EXACTLY where you are!!!! I feel so guilty everytime I have something that is not 100% nutritious! And i worry everytime I put something in my mouth!!! I call my cousin(who has a two month old) before every meal to see if what I'm eating is okay!!! I totally understand! I feel as though I hate to eat now!!!

Re: Anyone elsde have a hard time eating out?
I have a hard time eating out but for other reasons. I have been very picky about what I want to eat. A lot of things make me feel sick to my stomach and it seems to change daily. I can't stand the smell of certain foods either. I hope the second trimester is better..

Re: Anyone elsde have a hard time eating out?
I tend to be on the cautious side when it comes to eating, but that just means when I go out I don't order fresh mozzarella or a salad with blue cheese (or gorganzola), or something that is specifically on the FDA's (not the doctor but the FDA) list of food pregnant women should avoid.
I do not have the patience to heat cold cuts to steaming and then wait for them to cool off, so I don't eat them. (DH has already been told I want a bologna sandwich immediately following delivery ).
As for the rest of the stuff . . . my MD has been in practice for over 40 years and told me he has never seen a case of fetal alcohol syndrome in his entire career, so an occasional alcoholic beverage is OK, and certainly cooking with wine is no problem. When cooking with alcohol I do make sure it cooks for at least one hour.

Re: Anyone elsde have a hard time eating out?
seriously though, no- I have been pretty relaxed about it. I have had a few cold cut sandwiches from delis, and some tuna and some feta. I had 2 sips of beer on Saturday, and about a quarter glass of wine a week ago. I have also had a few cups of half caff. I definitely disagree with the no food made with alcohol thing. My Dr. is pretty strict, and I have followed her rules as guide lines. But i think the stress of analyzing every bite is way worse than one turkey sandwich.

Re: Anyone elsde have a hard time eating out?
No, I really don't have trouble now. In the 1st trimester I did, but that was because the only things that didn't make me nauseous were bagels, cereal, eggs, cheese, and fruit.
I've been pretty cautious about what I eat--no hot dogs, cold cuts, cheese if I'm not sure it's pasteurized, etc., but I can find things on the menu that are fine. I also haven't had anything to drink, but I never heard that you can't eat food cooked with alcohol either. Even if a small amount is left, I doubt that amount is going to harm the baby. Most pasta dishes should be okay, as well as steak, chicken, or some seafood.
Enjoy your anniversary! There are sure to be a few dishes that are fine.
