Anyone else go to NSUH tour last night?

It was pretty informative- I'm glad we went. It was long though- 7pm- 9:15. I got some answers to my burning questions. For anyone else that was wondering there is wifi in the post-partum rooms, lol.

Also, I was really interested to see the private rooms b/c I'm kind of a people-phobe and omg they did not seem worth the $700+. I heard somewhere they were SO beautiful and that just wasn't the case. It was the same as the semi-private but with some cheap fake wood flooring and cheap flat tv, lol. Obviously I know ur really paying for the privacy- but still for so much $$$ they could bump up the entire experience!

Another thing to note that some of you girls have asked about is the swine flu/ children visiting deal. She said as of yesterday they went from only 18 year old + visitors to 14 year old + (your own children/siblings of ur new baby do not count and are free to visit).

Hmm what else did I learn? You can have 3 people other than DH in your delivery room (yeah right though- the rooms were so tiny I can't even imagine that, lol), visiting hours are from noon- 8pm but it's pretty flexible if u give birth during the night- they won't keep out grandparents and aunts etc. Visitors are supposed to be 2 at a time- but doesn't seem enforced.

OHH a snack cart comes at 9pm and it looked so good- there was pastry and marino ices- I wanted one so bad but kept my hands to myself...

Anyway, that's all I remember that seemed important to me, haha, oh AND the babies in the nursey were SOOOO cute, I almost cried- seriously- it made me emotional, lol.

OOh and one other thing I need to share. Another preggo for the tour walked in right after me and the lady at the desk had given me directions to the tour but she was totally wrong- and she told the other girl to just follow me- but DH was in the little deli in there buying gum so the girl just asked me to reiterate the directions so she didn't have to wait- and I totally sent her to the wrong place in another tower on another floor. Meanwhile the lady came up to me like 2 minutes after the girl left and brought me to the right place, lol, and that girl didn't show up til like 15 mins later and I felt like she thought I lied to her... haha. Oops- so if ur a lifer and ur reading this- sorry- it wasn't my fault!! (Maybe I shoulda been grown up and apologized last night, haha)

Also she mentioned the tour is not usually that long but there were a lot of questions- mainly stupid ones, lol (things they should have asked their own OB, Googled, or asked in a birthing class). But I didn't care (mainly since I was having BH contractions and didn't wanna get up from my chair, lol)

This was in Manhasset??

Wow the rules changed in the last 2 weeks lol There were signs placed everywhere no one under 18 (including siblings) and only 1 partner in the delivery/labor room, no visitors the whole time.
Then I was told only 2 people can visit in the maternity ward at once. Oh and they said no wifi or any cell service (which we actually did not have while looking at the rooms)

Better they changed it then!

The private room deal was really #1 on my list. DH wants to stay over, I am bfing, and we would like to keep the baby in the room as much as possible (all besides me just being an unfriendly jerk that likes private, lol). I just couldn't help but think that I would leave the hospital with a bill from $1500 - $3000 and just feel like man that wasn't worth it. IDK though we'll see how I feel when it all happens... IDK what I expected- like the Waldorf Astora? I guess I just thought it would be more of a day and night/ obvious choice. I mean, everyone has to keep their door open also and the beds are all by the hallways- people r walking around, looking in, etc no matter WHERE u r. Plus the nurse/ tour guide told us almost all the DHs stay over the first night even in the semi-private rooms- people just pull the curtain and that's it. I read another thread on here that was HEATED about roomates keeping their babies in the room all night w/ the crying and unwanted DHs staying, etc... It made me nervous to share AND want my DH and baby, kwim?

She said the flu ban was modified literally yesterday. As for the other things, geeze, I hope she wasn't wrong about the wifi!! I didn't think to check since she already answered my question. As for the people in the delivery room- I hope ur right, lol- keep my mother out! I guess there r all "policies" but when u get there a lot of it depends on ur ob maybe and the other staff at the time? Ugh- I hate not knowing- that's why I went on the tour!!!
