Re: Anyone else have names picked out???
We have too! We are going to start TTC in 6 months and have had many converesations about the names together and even with our familiy. For us, I think it is because we are so emotionally ready and excited to have a baby but have a bunch of logistical things that we want to be behind us first.

Well, we have one part of the name for a girl, but we need first names and middle names, plus hebrew names. Although not customary, my sister and I have 2 hebrew names each. If we want to make that a tradition, we need to decide on 4 names for each child (first and middle in both hebrew and secular, unless we only use hebrew names).
where do you look for hebrew names?? Are there like web sites for hebrew names, or do the baby books also have names by origin?
Here is a good site....I love the name Leah. Jordan Leah (or spelled Layah. not sure yet) I think has a nice flow...I know DH will veto Leah.
Hebrew names
The hebrew name is somewhat dictated by the hebrew name of the person the child is named after. I would prefer to give my child the exact same hebrew name, but that is not always done. I'd be curious as to whether you ladies are doing that. I know who I would want to name a child after from my family, but we have to figure out a way to be fair to both families. I am going to check out that website for more ideas.

I love and will more than likely name our children with names from the Old Testament. They are traditional and that is what I like. DH is with me on this one.
I only have one person to name for in my family. DH has 2. Since I am the only one of my siblings who plans on having children - the others are done - it is my responsibility and honor to do so for him.
Should we have a son, our son will get my father's Hebrew name without question. My father's name starts with a V and there are no male names with a V that I like AT ALL - trust me, I have seen all of them. I do not want to give a male child my father's English name because combined with our last name, it would be not only a mouthful, but a stamp of etnicity. In this day and age, I would rather my child be identified by his character and his actions than by his name. To say that is doesnt happen, is simply not truthful - it does. It happens to me with my last name only all the time. My first name is English (from England)
Should we have a daughter, there are a few V names that I like but I do not LOVE. HOWEVER, the female child will be given a Hebrew name that is as close to the female equivalent of my father's Hebrew name as possible.
Bottom line for us: Hebrew names carry the honor and we will try to honor family members by naming our children with their Hebrew names. The English names, people will have to live with. I will have to wait until I am pregnant to find out which member of DH's family we will name a middle name for.
Here are first name choices
Female: Abigail Rachel Sarah Rebecca Ruth(for a middle name only)
Male: Adam Jacob Jesse David Jordan
We will try our best not to be influenced by anyone. Again, our last name is a phonetic nightmare so I hope to keep things simple.

Re: Anyone else have names picked out???
we avoided the whole american/hebrew name thing by making her AMERICAN name hebrew - Talia Seporah. She is named after my gma...and our next child will be named after my inlaws side. If we have another girl she will get a hebrew name (I have one in mind) - but I am not sure what we will do if it is a boy. We had Talias name picked out before we were TTC - her middle name was a gameday decision though.

My paternal grandfather's name was Jacob and I would love to use Jacob as a middle name. My father's hebrew name is "Zev" and that is a definate no for me. His real name is William which works out great because DH's paternal grandfather's name was William. So I'd like to use William as a middle name.
My father's mother her name was Sarah and I really want to use that as a middle name. DH isnt so hot on the name Sarah. My paternal great grandmother's name was Layah and I was actually suppose to be named Layah but for some reason when I was born my dad said I didnt look like a Layah.
From my mother's side (which is catholic) I really want to use my great grandmother's name of Jacqualyn. I wanted to combine my great grandmother's name and my bubbie's name to be Jacqualyn Sarah.
DH wasnt fond of that. My great grandmother's real name is Giaccomina. I told him at least I am not pushing that name.
I'll compromise he can pick the first name but I get the middle name...Boy: Alexander and middle name of William or Jacob. Girl: Jordan and middle name of Sarah or Layah.

I agree-- I would rather have a hebrew name that corresponds to the name we give the baby- but, if you really love a name, and it's not after someone-- another way to cover off is through the Hebrew name.
We have names picked out-- for the most part--- after our grandparents who have passed. I think for hebrew names-- we'll just wing it-- although today I stumbled upon the name Abra for a girl, then of course the male version is Abraham and I like the idea of naming the kid with a middle hebrew name after my side of the family, which is derivative of Abraham.

My middle name is Allison with a Hebrew middle name of Aviah for my grandfather whose name was Abraham (in Hebrew, Avraham). That may be an option for you

Re: Anyone else have names picked out???
we have our girl's name all picked out but the boys name is still up in the air
dh is jewish and his family follows the tradition of naming after a loved one who has passed, but they are not too strict about it and typically just use the first initial of the name. dh's brother just had a baby and used the only remaining initial in his family... so i guess we will name after loved ones in my family.

Actually it's typical to only name after the first initial, not the actual name-- if your IL's think they are letting you off easy-- they are tricking you!!

That's pretty. What I like about Abra is that it is actually the first 4 letters of my last name-- but if I have two girls-- I am all over that!

Re: Anyone else have names picked out???
I too am Jewish and have to name my kids after deceased grandparents and most of them start with the letter "L" - DH & I don't like any L male names. If I like a name, he dislikes it.

I have always loved the name Aviva-- my brother had a friend named Aviva in HS and she was this very pretty cool chick-- my brother is 5 yrs older than me and I always looked up to the girls he brought around.
Sadly, she died at the age of 19 due to some form of back cancer-- I always think of her when I hear that name-- but it's really such a pretty name.
Not to be a downer.

Not at all. We all associate certain names with certain people and whatever makes you comfortable will be a great choice!

Re: Anyone else have names picked out???
Its hard not to associate names with certain people. I'm going to try to use the first initial for names, after my grandparents or great aunts and their hebrew names. My sister will have covered all of our grandparents by the time we have our first - so that's helpful. Not to be mean, but like others said, some letters are harder to find names you like - so it gives me more choice to use others.

Re: Anyone else have names picked out???
Eh, we disagree. For a girl, I want Sonia Grace. Sonia is my aunt who died; Grace is my MIL. He likes Nicolette. Not to be rude, but I really dislike that name.....
For a boy, we kind of agree on DH's name...but I love Blake. That was my dad's dad (grandpa) who died before me or even my mother met him.
