anyone elses OB tell them this?? (hospital related)
today we went for our confirmation on pregnancy.. and my OB asked were we delivered my dd (NSP).. he said b/c of malpractice being soo high for docs.. alot of them are giving up being OBs and just being GYNs.. So he said that about 50% of the availablity for giving birth in NSP is gone since i had my dd 9 months ago...He said well figure out some place to deliver.
He said it soo quickly that it didnt even register until i got home... What the???? find a place to deliver??? what in the world does that mean??

I've defaintely heard about the malpractice for OB's being some of the highest in the medical fields and yes- this is deterring many from stayng OB's. I haven't heard about there being an issue at certain hospitals becuase of it, but I can see how eventually it would come to that. My group only delivers out of one hospital so it wasn't an issue for me. Did they give you a list of other places to deliver?

Wow!! I knew that many doctors are no longer delivering. I didn't realize that hospitals are affected. Maybe it is because doctors who deliver need to make sure they have appropriate backup. Is your doctor admitted at any other hospital?

i have heard about the large number of drs not delivering anymore i would think that you would have to only do this (find a place to deliver) if your Dr. is not associated with a hospital

2 of the three docs in my practice are no longer delivering. One is only 50 years old. Tremendous amount of liability and the rates of malpractice are huge. RE's also have very high rates of malpractice insurance as well. I am concerned for who will deliver my grandchildren if this keeps up.

Yes I have heard about this, malpractice costs them a fortune!! I don't see how they have less room at the hospital if there are less OBGYNs delivering? go figure...

Re: anyone elses OB tell them this?? (hospital related)
My OB said alot of ob/gyn are either leaving the state or dropping the OB.
I know he is associated with Winthrop and New island too. My sis just told me new island no longer is doing deliveries. I would love to give birth in Winthrop, heard they have an execently neonatal department. He really didnt get into it.. i guess since im not due until feb/09 its nothing to discuss, and well just wait and see how it goes by then.
