What if they have the tags on them? I had someone in my office that used to get them...who knew someone that would get them off the truck They were the real thing.
They're fakes. Tags and receipts mean nothing.
How can you tell they are fake then?
Sometimes you can't identify it unless you know what to look for. I happen to spend a bit of time on a msgbrd geared at premium denim and authenticating jeans.
Personally, I can't tell fake from authentic when looking at someone's a$s. Except for some R&Rs, only because I've educated myself on that brand. Now, if I had a pair of jeans in my hands, I might be able to figure it out...then again, maybe not. (Premium denim isn't always so "premium"...it's just good marketing.)
Counterfeiters go to great lengths to make their goods look like the real deal and that includes store tags, receipts and even using "damaged" stamps so that people don't question the lower price.

They are fakes. Tags mean nothing. Take a look at different forums and read up on how to spot a fake.
What's the matter with bootlegs? I like them and wear them often- am I "out"?
bootleg - meaning fakes LOL not the style of jeans
LOL- that went right over my head! I am usually pretty smart with those things too. I was so worried that I wasn't in style.

Another question, though--do people get angry when their "friend" invites them over to buy bootlegs?I'd be a bit annoyed at the premise of the "party" and the fact that my friend would profit off of my being duped into buying something I'd never wear....
I think you are making a good point.
I have a problem with it if it is not disclosed that the jeans/bags, etc... are fake.
In essence you really think you are getting a deal but in fact you are getting ripped off.
I would never pay $80+ for a "fake" jeans. Plenty of Jeans in the stores for that price after a sale/discount, etc...

Re: Anyone ever been to a "jeans" party? Update at bottom!
I was annoyed that the jeans were represented to be designer at great deals. I really wanted to tell everyone there that they were all fake, but was in an uncomfortable position because it was a friend of my mom's who was hosting. Her husband is a cop -- isnt that illegal?
As far as how to tell, it was a mix of things. 1. the fabric was really poor quality -- think the clubby stores in the mall. 2. the stitching was awful (falling apart in places, etc). 3. the seams werent always even and the whiskering looked bad. 4. the pocket designs were off. 5. if you know jeans, you can tell by the inner tag placement, fonts, etc.
I also suspected that they would all be fake, so I looked at them with a more discerning eye. I don't think I'd ever get a close enough look at someone's jeans IRL to think they are fake, plus I don't normally suspect knockoff jeans (knockoff purses are much more common) but the other thing that bugged me is.... $70-80 on knockoff jeans?! really? you can go to off 5th or nordy outlet or annie sez and get authentic jeans for that price or close to it!
fake bags on the other hand are much easier to spot, and i can tell in a second -- even DH is learning how to spot them
