anyone ever clean with white vinegar?
i heard that white vinegar is great for cleaning many things around the house -- but specifically the bathtub/tiles.... this is my most hated area of the house to clean
i just googled it and read many conflicting ways to clean the bathroom with a vinegar mix... i was wondering if anyone here has done this, and if so - what did you mix in the vinegar?
TIA

baking soda, i sprinkle it and then spray with vinegar and it makes "volcano" so it eats through dirt.

Not answering your question but - I use it in the wash instead of using dryer sheets now. It softens and is not nasty like dryer sheets, which contain - I kid you not - animal fat (and chemicals & oils that stay on clothes).
I'm going to try the baking soda vinegar thing - I'm sure my 7 yr old would love to help with that.

Re: anyone ever clean with white vinegar?
I use a homemade recipe to clean the bathroom and I have it in a spray bottle that I use for everything. It's baking soda, borax, white vinegar, and castile soap. So much nicer smelling than Mr. Clean.

Re: anyone ever clean with white vinegar?
i have a spray bottle filled with white vinegar and water that i use to clean pretty much everything-- my countertops, sinks.. its awesome on my glass top stove and my stainless steel appliances i also use it as like an air freshener- DH makes coffee everymorning and i HATE the smell of coffee, so if its really bad, i put a bowl of vinegar next to the coffee machine.

Re: anyone ever clean with white vinegar?
white vinegar is great. I dont really use it to clean too much but I do use it to clean my cat and rabbits litter box. gets the bottom so clean and gets rid of the smell.
Oh.. i also use it to clean my kitchen garbage pail. I had such a bad smell in it and i first tired bleach and the smell was still there, so i tried white vinegar and it worked!!!
i usually buy the big bottle from BJs or Costco

I do this too, with porcelain tiles in my kitchen and hallway. I like that it's not toxic like Mr. Clean but cleans as well or better!

That's a great suggestion too. We had to stop using dryer sheets and switch to fragrance and dye free laundry detergent because I was getting rashes from it. Thanks.
I buy the biggest bottle of no frills vinegar from the store I can find and I use it for none of this - rather I put two long squirts of dish soap in a spray bottle, about an inch of water to mix it, and the rest with white vinegar. I spray that on all the weeds that like to grow between my driveway belgium blocks, curb, and any weed that isn't close to valued plants like my flowers, trees or shrubs.
It's an herbicide and I'm finding if I spray it and then am patient, it will actually kill most small weeds without me even pulling them. Not to mention, when you mix it with dish soap, it smells pretty good!

Re: anyone ever clean with white vinegar?
For people who clean with the vinegar, especially using it straight, doesn't it smell? Or do you do something so your house doesn't smell like a salad?

I just sprayed a bunch of weeds over the weekend with vinegar and water. 6yo DS and 3yo DD helped out... Definitely not letting them help with "real" weed killer....
We also use it inside for a surface cleaner. I'll have to start looking into the other uses everyone has mentioned.

If you keep it in a spray bottle for everyday cleaning how much vinegar to water do you use? I'd like to start doing this.

I also use baking soda with the water/vinegar mix in the bathroom.

The beauty of vinegar and water is that they are both really cheap. Start with 50/50, and if it's not strong enough, add more vinegar. If the smell is too strong for you, use more water.
