Re: Anyone ever have a mole removed?
I had one removed on my leg, and it really didn't hurt. I have a barely visible scar that looks like a bug bite.

Re: Anyone ever have a mole removed?
I have at least 2 removed a year. I never had any kind of complications and none have ever left a scar.
By doctor numbs the area first - so you do feel the needle going in, but after that I never feel anything.

Re: Anyone ever have a mole removed?
I had one removed on my face right by my nose. I was under anthesia for something else at the time so I didn't feel anything. Doc did it for me since I asked. Mostly though they just numb you.
I had a little bandage for about 3 days and then I put some ointment on it. It left a small white scar but now I can't even tell. DH looks for it and can't find it.
It will be fine. I was thinking about removing it for years and finally did it. I was told not to go in the sun for a while so I had mine done in March. Gave me a few months to heal, but if you do it, don't sun your face. It could make the scar darker with sun exposure. Wear something with SPF in it.
Good luck.

Re: Anyone ever have a mole removed?
I had one removed from my face years ago. It was shaved/sliced off and left no scar. That one was removed for cosmetic reasons.
I had a mole removed from my back that was cancerous. THAT one left a nasty scar- they have to remove the root (yuck) and everything, so more area was affected. I just tell everyone who asks about it, "blood in, blood out..." then flash my gang symbols....

Re: Anyone ever have a mole removed?
I had one removed that was on my hairline kind of in front of my ear. It was a huge one! He numbed it first then used some kind of cauterizing tool to take it off. It slightly hurt that day and took about 1 week to heal. Hasn't come back. I had it done a year ago.

Re: Anyone ever have a mole removed?
I just had a very small one removed from my nose and it healed great you would never know it was there. I went to a dermatologic surgeon Dr. Howard Sobel. His office is great. my mom had some removed from her face but went to a plastic surgeon as her were bigger. So if yours is on the bigger side I would look into a plastic surgeon as they will probably give you the best outcome.

Re: Anyone ever have a mole removed?
I get them removed all the time! I am on skin cancer watch since I was 17. If they scrape it, it will not leave a scar. I have a scar on my back from one because he had to dig it out due to cancer cells!!
I have to go back in November to get 3 taken from my scalp!!
Removal doesn't hurt the numb the area!

Re: Anyone ever have a mole removed?
I had one removed from my stomach when I was 12 (pre-cancerous). It hurt when the anesthesia wore off, and it hurt when the dr. took the stitches out. The scar is really light and barely noticeable.

Re: Anyone ever have a mole removed?
I had one on the side of my nose removed... I had a plastic surgeon do it and insurance paid for it because the doctor said it was a suspicous lesion... (which is wasn't... I had it for as long as I could remember)
It didn't hurt a bit. I have a very slight scar, which really can't be seen unless I point it out to someone when I am not wearing makeup.
You will have stitches for about 5 days. And yes, you should stay out of the sun... Sun prevents healing, and will lead to more scarring... Maybe have it removed in the fall or just cover up.

Re: Anyone ever have a mole removed?
I had a few removed..one on my eye brow, belly buttom and lots of little ones on my neck. they were all shaved off. I was scared too, but it was a breeze. i had no pain afterwards either. So far they haven't returned and it's been like 7 years. They told me that they might come back if I become pregnant and that hasn't happened yet, so we'll see. Don't worry, it's not that bad.

my daughter had a small mole removed on her back. There is a scar but the Dr said it will heal in time. It's been a few months and it is slowly going away.

Is this covered by insurance? Or no because it is cosmetic?

Re: Anyone ever have a mole removed?
Thanks for your information, everyone! I appreciate it! I'll definitely wait until the fall because I know it's not realistic to tell myself that I'm going to stay out of the sun now! Thanks again!

Re: Anyone ever have a mole removed?
Mine was on my leg, so the scar doesn't bother me, but I am sure it is because I went to a right out of medical school doctor. I bled alot afterwards and had to go back so she could fix it up.
It hurt me, although I was partially numb, I don't think she did it right.
It is covered by insurance, because many times they will do a biopsy on it.

Re: Anyone ever have a mole removed?
I have had a million (ok, not that many, but a lot) of moles removed.
The best advice I can give you is GO TO A PLASTIC SURGEON. DO NOT let a dermatologist remove the mole. The moles I had removed by a plastic surgeon did SUCH a better job than the dermatologists. The scarring is much worse if you use a dermatologist.

Re: Anyone ever have a mole removed?
I had one removed on my upper arm. 14 stiches across, 10 down (into the arm). Left a keloid scar, and it was done by one of NY Magazines "best dermatologists".
I think scarring is partly genetic. No one in my family scars well.
ETA: I agree with the above poster - had I known it might scar so badly, I would have gone to a plastic surgeon. But my derm didn't know it would be so deep either until he started taking it out.

Re: Anyone ever have a mole removed?
I had one removed.
They gave me a shot to numb it and then they shaved it off with a scalpel (gross) and then they cauterized it.
It is a little lighter than the rest of the surrounding skin
I had to stay out of the sun for a while to avoid scarring.
FM if you have any more questions!

Re: Anyone ever have a mole removed?
I have had two removed recently (back in Nov and still have small scars).
Since this is on your face I would consider going to a plastic surgeon to have it removed b/c you are more likely to have less scaring if they do the procedure than if your dermatologist or their PA does it. Ask your doctor about recommending someone - That is what my grandmother did in the past and I would do if it was somewhere where I was really concerned about scaring. Are they removing it? Doing a shave biopsy or what? If they are completely removing it expect the area they cut to be bigger than what they are removing then they stich it up after.
