DH and were young (AKA broke) when we first moved into our house. We pretty much spent all the extra money we had on furniture. Over the past 10 years we have made a lot of improvements and still have a little ways to go. We would live to redo all of our floors, but is that even possible? Do they move furniture? I can't imagine where they'd put it.

Yeah I did this & it was crazy. I crammed all my furniture into my kitchen, bathrooms, and basement (the only places in the house without hardwood floors), and it stayed there for over a week. After the floors were done, we repainted the walls of each room & moved the furniture back. Couldn't use my kitchen at all during that time, and we slept at somebody else's house for over a week. We moved all the furniture ourselves (with help of family) & it was a huge pita, but in the end it worked out ok.

There is NO WAY all if furniture would fit in the kitchen. Could they do room by room?

Of course---it just might be a little more $$ since it'll be seperate small jobs.
My MIL did this since there was no way she could have all hardwoods uncovered at once. She did 2 BR and the DR...then 2 more BR, hallways, and the LR next time. I think she also had them come back to do the stairs separately.

They do this all the time. My DH installs/repairs wood floors. They just move the furniture into another room and go to work. Sometimes they'll have to leave it overnight (depending on what kind of poly the use) but for jobs where people are currently living there they use a faster drying poly so that they can move the furniture back in a few hours.

If you do get them done while living in the house-look into using a water based poly-it is just as hardy and doesn't stink as much as the solvent based one does. We got ours done a week before we moved in with the solvent poly and it still smelled for a long time. This was in the summer with the windows open through the day.
